This photo may seem a bit odd to you as a selfless selfie. It has nothing to do with the fact that I am eating much healthier these days or that I went to a luncheon today in someone's home and brought a pasta salad with me. But as I was chopping celery and green peppers this morning, it occurred to me that this salad was an appropriate metaphor of me.
I'm made up of all these interesting ingredients that get tossed together in the bowl of my life. Some of the pieces are to be expected, as one would expect to find a tomato, carrots and lettuce in a garden salad. But other times there's an ingredient that makes a person take note of the unexpected (like the coleslaw recipe I have that uses sesame seeds, toasted almonds and Ramen noodles).
Colorful as this salad is, if the vegetables in it were rotten, no one would want to eat it. With that thought, I make sure that my "inner salad" stays fresh too. No one enjoys company with a rotten person! And there may be a wide assortment of ingredients in my salad, but hopefully all my pieces combine to add a nice bit of flavor to this world. So there you have it- my life as a bowl of salad. Now what dressing should I use today?
Instant Fav! Cause I love how you put the whole thing together!! This says so much to me and you are the kind of mixed veggies that i like to hang out with!! :)

There is nothing quite like a salad with colorful and fresh ingredients. Ann, this looks so appetizing....beautiful presentation! I would probably choose yogurt ranch dressing.
@cimes1 Thank you Carole! (And I did put homemade ranch dressing on it!) @mhatch Thanks so much Mark! @wenbow Thank you Wendy! @pandorasecho Thank you Dixie! I suspect you are a great nurturer too!
Wow Ann that is such a cool expression of life. I am glad I already ate supper before I saw this picture because it looks soooooo good . That coleslaw recipe sounds intriguing
Just a question... is your challenge for the week food? You are making me want to go and get burgers and salads! I love the different colors in this. I'm not a huge food pic fan, but you did well with this.
@rhubbard Thanks Rick! @bkbinthecity Thanks Brian! @prttblues Thanks Bev! I realized this afternoon as I was doing the food shopping (more food!) that I had a lot of food shots this week. And wouldn't you know today's indoor/outdoor shot is of the shelf where I keep all my cookbooks!
1/2 head green cabbage chopped
1/2 head red cabbage chopped
1 bunch scallions chopped
slivered almonds
sesame seeds
toasted (add amount to taste in to salad mix)
1 package Ramen noodles (I use the Oriental flavor), break noodles into bite-size pieces and toss with cabbage. Set flavor packet aside for dressing.
Dressing:
soup packet
1/2 cup vegetable oil (I use canola)
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
salt and pepper to taste (I don't add any since the soup packet has enough already)
Combine and mix well. Pour over salad mix and toss. Keep cool till serving. This recipe makes a large bowl of coleslaw and is a hit wherever I bring it. Enjoy!!
