30 Days in June- Day 15

Busy day today, so decided for a quick and easy shot. This divider wall breaks up the space between the living room (right) and the kitchen (left) with a closet that houses my washing machine and dryer and our hot water heater. I was standing in the dining room to take it. The little Shaker shelf was a gift from a friend. It's where I keep all my cookbooks. (Yes, there are too many of them! But some were my mom's.) The Shaker candle was also a gift, but from a different friend. And the green bowl was given to me by Becky, my daughter-in-law when she was engaged to my son. The two tiles on the wall were my mother's. She bought them when she was in the Netherlands many, many years ago. Last but not least, the crock on the floor is an antique which now holds my potatoes and the ship's lantern was at one time on the hearth in the house where I lived during high school. I'm not sure where my mother got it though. So, there you go- a quick shot of my little home sweet home!
Lovely

Our homes say so much don't they. Our own little shrine to hold those memories.

Lovely, Ann. Your home looks so cozy. Ah ha! Another cookbook collector I see. I have a couple of those type shelves in my kitchen. Trouble is I often forget what recipe is where ;-)

I like all the antiques and then in the background you see the refrigerator magnets... come to think of it, I may actually have refrigerator magnets that count as antique.

@maggiemae Thanks Maggie! It's a lot of fun!
@ellimae Thanks Ellen! lol Just remember you cannot see what's on the dining room table in this shot!
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! I've always loved "old stuff" as one of my friends once called it!
@digitalrn Thanks Rick! It's a cozy little place filled with lots of special things!
@cimes1 Thanks Carole! I really have too many- and some that I don't use, so when my neighbor and I have a yard sale next month...
@sangwann Thanks Dione! Drop by any time!!
@sabine Thanks Sabine! We are quite happy here.
@alia_801 Thanks Alia- that's very kind of you to say!
@la_photographic Thanks Laura! Do you think I could repost this shot today for the "take another look" theme?
@mrssmith Thanks Carla! At one time my grandmother asked me if I didn't want something more modern. But I really love antique furniture and family treasures. That's probably why I've ended up with the collection I have.
@peterdegraaff Thanks Peter! Feel free to drop by when you're in the neighborhood!
@dmariewms Thanks Marie! Yes, they are from all the great places I've been and in the center is a postcard of a run-down old shack with the saying, "Finally found a place we could afford!" However, none of my have reached antique status yet.
@paulavdmerwe Thanks Paula! You are always welcome to come and visit!

@la_photographic Laura and I saw the same thing - it's amazing how this treasured spot has the appearance of a happily smiling face! Just stand far back & squint at it a bit, Ann...lovely symbolism.

an instant fav for me ann - i love the creation you made with this - i really have trouble with verticale shots - i am amazed how wonderful this is!

Very nice, I like it! :-) Happy cooking :-) I love all the history of your things, so special. Love the green bowl and lantern :-)
June 16th, 2012
Nice shot!
June 16th, 2012
@lyno Thank you Lyn! I can see the face-yes. Fun isn't it?
@adobewaters Thank you Adobe- thank you so much for the fav! I chose to go vertical with this shot because if I'd gone horizontal there was too much clutter on the sides of the shot (the kitchen and the living room) which made it hard to find a focal point.
@vposey Thanks Vickie! I'm so glad you enjoy them. My friends who know and love me often say there is a story for everything in my house!
@lyoungs1023 Thanks Elizabeth!

Simple yet very elegant. A quaint shot. I love the descriptions of everything and how you obtained them. I only have one cook book and I don't even use it... I can't imagine owning that many!!! Great photo and nice composition.
June 17th, 2012
oh, my goodness. this is like déjà vu! i thought i was looking at partner's mother's farmhouse where i stayed for a few years - the set up of the living room and the kitchen, the shelf, the kitchen floor, the cupboards, the fridge, even those two tiles on the wall, and the fireplace. eerily similar! wonderful shot, ann.

The layout is similar to ours..standing in the dining room you look into the living room and to the right into the kitchen..I like this open space feeling. your antiques and nicknacks are very beautiful..they give it a nice warm and homey feeling
