Same September 7

I decided to choose diamonds for my Same September shape. I fiddled around with this a lot! I'm not sure I like it. I think the background is too busy. But I do like the way the light is coming through the diamonds of this wind chime.
I think I agree with you Ann. I really like the diamonds but the background is a bit distracting.

I love live love this! Unique angle and good dof...love the dangling shapes and the b and w fav for me!

Because the background is B&W, it doesn't look too busy. Just provides interesting variations of light and dark. Very eye-catching.

I like the way the crystals are catching the light - I know what you mean about the background as I often find myself moving things all around the deck or moving ME in ridiculous poses to try to get what I want!

Beautiful b&w
September 8th, 2012
I agree with Allison - I don't think it's distracting since it's in b&w. I bet it sounds beautiful!

I think it's a really great pic. I love the clarity of it. The b&w really gives it depth. Nice job!

The light makes for a nice touch to this shot

If you hadn't mentioned the background, I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

i don't mind the background; my focus is mainly on the diamonds. it's just the perfectionist in you :-) interesting to see how our posts will develop over the next few weeks. i had a hard time figuring out this challenge so i made an outline using a calendar. guess what? as soon as i posted the baba au rhum, which wasn't in the outline, everything just changed. not one bit of the things in the outline is being used. this is a complicated challenge. for example, my original sensation was to have been 'touch'.

@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole. I agree even though a lot of people don't seem to be bothered by it, it bothers me! lol One of Jeff's tiling machines is sitting on the deck right now and I couldn't move it out of the way, and I didn't really pay attention to it until I uploaded and it really spoiled the picture. So I tried to clone it out, but the result was not satisfactory. Maybe I'll post a "take two" shot on my second album which I'm slowly catching up on!
@espyetta Thank you so much MaryBeth- and thank you for the fav!! Wow!
@allie912 Thank you Allison! I was trying to continue the dappled effect from the background.
@lyno Thank you Lyn. One of Jeff's machines was on the deck but it's a bit heavy and I didn't really think of moving it. But I should have. I might do a "take 2" version to post in the second album later.
@kerristephens thanks Kerri!
@sparkleplenty1 thank you Joyce- this one is very light sounding as the diamonds are only plastic and there are only 3 little metal tubes. My favorite chimes are the kind that many have- wood and metal and very melodic.
@prttblues thanks Bev! I really played around with this one- adjusted the contrast, did some cloning, added HDR, adjusted the contrast some more, did some more cloning- gobbledy-gook!
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian!
@dmariewms thanks Marie!
@summerfield lol Vikki- perfectionist and OCD! I have had a hard time with this one too. To not be home for the beginning really through a wrench in what I could choose for the first 3 days. I'm happy with what I chose for Tues. and Wed. but the Thurs. symbol and today's shape- eh! I think the diamond shots will improve, but the symbol- boring. But all that could change as I head into week 2. Maybe the second shots will be more inspired, who knows! How interesting that you mapped it out! When we were doing the thumbnail challenge, I kept making "test collages" to see how the week would look in the thumbnail version!

I like the B&W. Just a thought, have you tried selective colouring on two or three of the diamond shapes?
September 8th, 2012
Beautiful Ann, I think the background gives it atmosphere and movement, making the image work well...lovely shadows and great processing.
September 8th, 2012
Very lovely shot! I like their shapes. 8) You could try using a large piece of card paper, setting it up behind, as a background. I think some photographers do that and even carry card paper around for that purpose.
September 8th, 2012
I think it's lovely as it is.... the background kind of adds to the glittery feel. If you have a spare hour or more and were really bothered (!!) you could try selectively softening the shot so that the diamonds are more distinct? I would love this windchime!

Lovely shot
September 8th, 2012
Ooh cool diamonds! I like the patterns they make :) (One of my dances at the end-of-year concert is to Diamonds are a girls best friend - I have a feeling I'm going to be tracking some shinies down soon too!)
September 8th, 2012
Lovely. The translucence is great here.
September 8th, 2012
Interesting with processing
September 8th, 2012
Beautiful! Did you rob the US Central Bank to get all those big diamonds, haha?
September 8th, 2012
Looks like a beautiful wind chime. Nice patterns of light.
September 8th, 2012
I like this. Very cool.
September 8th, 2012
@salza Thanks Sally- I'm planning on doing a re-take for album 2. This one was shot in b/w, but that's an idea worth trying.
@kandernob Thanks Karen! I appreciate that thought.
@myautofocuslife Thanks Livia! Yes, that might help, but I think the simple solution is to move Jeff's wet-saw out of the way and reshoot! lol
@filsie65 Thanks Phil- might try that when I reshoot (just for my own satisfaction, not that I really have to!).
@wenbow Thank you Wendy!
@alia_801 Thanks Alia! Was thinking of finding quotes and lyrics about diamonds to put up with post and of course I thought of that song, but then I wasn't so crazy about the shot and had taken too much time messing around with the cloning- had to get on with the day!
@netkonnexion Thank you Damon!
@peterdegraaff Thank you Peter!
@sangwann lol Dione! Thank you!
@cimes1 Thank you Carole! If I had the funds, I'd probably have wind chimes and whirly gigs all over the yard. lol
@denisedaly Thank you Denise!

I like it. What you shot stands out. I think that you did it in b&w really works and may have been busy in color. :-)
September 8th, 2012
I'm sure that I do like it - the "busy" background adds interest and depth.
September 8th, 2012
I love it and it is perfect in B&W. nice shot Ann
September 8th, 2012
@vposey @automaticslim @melorac
Thank you Vickey, Andy and Carole! I just took another one to post in album two. It'll be interesting to see what you think.
September 9th, 2012
@olivetreeann - even little wahoo was a last minute decision and addition. hahaha! but as they say, if the old formula works, use it!
September 9th, 2012
The background to me isn't that noticeable as my eyes are drawn to the different diamond shapes.. I thing this is just so beautiful..looking forward to seeing next weeks.
September 9th, 2012
@bruni Thank you Bruni! I did do a retake which I like better but so many people enjoyed this one as well.
September 9th, 2012
No worries this is Gorgeous Ann! :)
September 9th, 2012
Love the B&W. Great image.
September 9th, 2012
@potsbypam @la_photographic
Thank you Pam!
Thank you Laura!
September 9th, 2012
I like the background, it's blurred, so it just looks like a really nice contrast to the chime! Good job!
September 10th, 2012
@sharritta Thanks Sharon! I did do the retake and preferred my second shot better. But many people liked this approach as well and that's ok. These things can be subjective!
