This is so close to where I want to be with this shot! It seems to blend the best of everything so far. I may try one more, but you'll have to find it in my second album as tomorrow starts "Flash of Red" February. Can you believe January is over already?!
Thank you so much everyone! I think I've figured out an elaborate process of laying photos as textures to get this result. But I think it bests captures the Ukiyo style photographically. I'll try out a few more in my second album before the challenge is up; maybe with a couple different pictures. Your feedback has been so helpful!
Thank you Maggie, Dixie, Rachel, Alia, Laura, Dione, Rick, Smitha and Carole! It's been a fun month- but it did go quickly. In some ways I felt like I was just beginning to get the hang of this! But in other ways, I'm ready to try something new. As always your feedback has really meant a lot! So here we go, on to February!
@pflaume Thank you Lisa! I'll be doing the Flash of Red in February. I've only done a week of black and white before. I'm glad there's only 28 days in Feb. but even with that- it's going to be a challenge to do a month of b/w.
believe it or not, i like this and the original more than the last two. although all three looks like they're paintings, this one is more engaging in terms of colours.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! This is also the one I'm most pleased with. Although I like the other two, they don't measure up to Ukiyo in my mind. The original is ok. The shadow is nice, but to me, on the whole the original is slightly boring. It doesn't really have a focus. But with the processing here, it now makes sense that the focus is on the shadow and how it interacts with the window.
I said I'd catch up, didn't I? I think this is an excellent response to the challenge with plenty of black line and some very appropriate tones. The base image was clearly a good choice, and whilst this doesn't look exactly like an ukiyo-e print, the impression it gives is spot on. Super work Ann, this is well worth a fav.
@automaticslim Thank you so much Andy! Especially for the fav! I wasn't sure I'd be able to replicate the Ukiyo style exactly because it is so detailed. This was as close as I could get without layering every single color then meticulously painting out the different shadows and details. So, I'm pleased with this and might try another before the time frame is up.

Thanks Jeff!
I am definitely pleased with this one. May have a go at one more shot. We had a dusting of snow last night and it looks great on the trees.
