Pink Pearls by olivetreeann

Pink Pearls

I spent a good portion of today running errands, constantly keeping my eyes open for something pink but in the end, I decided to set up a shot at home. I've also been thinking all day about the Label 4 April challenge to imitate one of your 365 favs. After spending about 30 minutes thumbing through my 1336 favs, I have decided that I can't replicate any of them! How could I pull off a Peter Degraaff shot? A Michael Elliot? A Jason Daniels, Tanja Carda or Jeff Walker? I have no idea how Bev does her light photos. I don't have vintage paper and books like Pinar has or have the ability to take bird shots like Alia, Cissy B or Kerri Stephens. I'm not into bugs but the insect pictures of MaryBeth and Chris always amaze me (even the spiders!). I can't travel the world like Ana does, but thanks to her pictures and those of Ruth M., Phil, Paula, Sally, Howard, Jennifer, Dave, Damon, Dione, Andy, Nicole, Laura, Simmy, Cheesebiscuit, Vesna and many many more, I have traveled the world over and over again on 365.

Not only have I had the windows of the world opened to me, I have also walked across my own beautiful country thanks to Carla, Dixie, Karenann, Rick, Kathryn, Carole, Janice, Lisa, Taffy, Henri, Laraine, Nada, Diane, Lisa(Bell), Denise, Terry, Tara, Marie, Allison and Ellen. I've got some great neighbors to the north who've introduced me to their hometowns and beyond- Brian, Bruni, Vikki and Julie. And when I've needed a happy dose of humor, I can always count on Colleen and Graham to take a quirky shot that makes me laugh all day. I can't seem to narrow down a fav I could even come close to replicating!

But I can tell you about a few photographers who've had an impact on how I take pictures. I was inspired to explore post-processing and editing by Chrystal. I liked the different effects she would apply on the WWYD challenges and thought I'd try some them out. Well, you know what that led to! Boys playing in the clouds, artist challenges, pictures with effects that make them look like paintings and all sorts of things in between. And where would the world be without frogmato and pigmato shots?

I've always loved the high-key, over-exposed shots of Beachradish, as well as Edie's unique version of that style too. I'd never purposely done that to a photo before. Now I love it when a subject sort of lends itself to that effect. Thus my shot for today mimics their method (although it doesn't hold a candle to their results!). But lastly, there is one photographer, who I miss dearly on this site, that perhaps made the biggest impact on me as a photographer. Bonnie Lusted was one of my earlier followers. When I saw her pictures, I wondered why she'd picked me to follow! Bonnie had an amazing eye. She could make anything look amazing- whether it was an onion peel, an old clothespin or a weathered door, she saw beauty where others would walk by. The close-ups I do now, are a result of her encouragement and example.

So rather than produce an epic fail of some great photo of the aforementioned talent, I shall instead record an epic memorial of praise to them. My apologies if I missed any of my faithful friends here- with 200 followees- my brain is a bit overwhelmed!!

To see some of Bonnie's photos, go to the first few pages of my fav's (I guess they will actually be closer to the "last" page), run your mouse over the thumbnails and watch for her name (Bonnie Lusted). Although my camera can't hold a candle to hers, I think you will be able to see how she influenced the way I do macros quite easily.

Awww! What a nice tribute to your followers! Thanks for the bug macro "shout out!" Lol! That is my favorite thing to shoot. So far...anyway. I intend to take classes this summer and do some set up/studio type photos. The Composition and color is beautiful in this pearl photo! So soft and pretty! Thanks!

And I miss seeing Bonnie's work too! And Livia's...and Joyce's, but she has been posting lately....a bit, anyway.

Awwww! Such lovely sentiment and a beautiful shot. Why replicate other people when you can produce your own great shots in your own way :) Thanks for the mention too :)

Great soft pastels and composition.

What a lovely shot, Ann! It's so soft and elegant. The detail and focus are perfect. Your write up made me chuckle. I too have traveled the world with you because of some of those you've mentioned. You are an inspiration to me and your encouragement keeps me going when I don't feel like doing a thing. Thank you for being you and you have to get that butt of yours back up here, li'l missy! Great job on today's shot! Love it! :)

@vesna0210 Thank you very much Vesna- that is so kind and sweet of you to say!
@summerfield Thank you Vikki- my faithful challenge buddy along with Alia! I must be honest though- these are costume jewelry- which is just fine for me!
@prttblues Thank you Bev! My sister is once again in radio silence but not because she's angry or anything. I think she just gets focused on her own life and forgets. At the moment, I'm thinking that I will just pick a time, tell them I'm coming and go for it- at least to get some of the things I'd like for remembrance. I'll talk it over with my other sister because we might have to all be there so everyone is happy- but whatever. Don't worry when I come, you will know ahead of time so we can plan an adventure!

@summerfield @potsbypam @henrir @pandorasecho

Thank you Vikki, Pam, Henri and Dixie for your fav's. You're so sweet!!

This is beautiful! I love the soft pink tones.
April 30th, 2013
@olivetreeann - ann, my pearls are not real either, and i bought them for cheap during sale events and most of them i bought when i first came here. i'm not really a jewelry person, but i don't mind a pair of earrings. my few pieces of jewelry i now use occasionally because there's really no one to hand those down to. except little ivy perhaps, she wants my bracelets "now" little bugger!
April 30th, 2013
Fav. This is stunning.
April 30th, 2013
@deniseinindy Thank you Denise!
@summerfield I'm sure an expert can tell the difference- but with this kind you don't have to worry and the average person has no clue if they're the real thing or not.
@edie Thank you Edie and thank you so much for the fav!! I really love your style!
April 30th, 2013
Love how delicate it feels.... so soft.

@vposey Thanks Vickie! You're right too!

So pretty pearls!
May 5th, 2013
@chrismarfil thanks Chris! Not the real thing- but they look as good as the real thing in this shot.
May 5th, 2013
I had the problem of which one to choose to interpret & it was doing my head in. There are so many exciting & creative people here so I passed on this one. Stunning highlights, love the pinks
May 7th, 2013
@wenbow Thank you Wendy! Up until a month or two ago, I'd been such a stickler about the challenges. If I committed to do one I did every shot no matter how hard it was! But for the last two months I've just been popping in and out of the individual days as I feel led to do. And the funny thing is, I've been able to combine more than ever before! This one though- copy a favorite fav- goodness, my little p&s replicating something that came out of the top of the line Nikon or Canon? I don't think so! lol As I looked over my list above, I realize I should have mentioned you and Maggiemae in NZ. I love seeing the landscapes you two put up. And of course your Ed shots are always a smile producer!

Thought I'd pick a fave to do this: @olivetreeann In response to my comment on your purple flowers: I'm so glad you do... I apologize for being AWOL the past few days. Back has been really bad... I hope you like my new pics... It seems that a lot have viewed but no comments except a few (all from complete strangers too)... I miss my faithful following. The ones you commented on prior only you and Henri said something except the robins eggs. Feel like I'm letting people down. Getting discouraged again :(
May 26th, 2013
@prttblues I had a feeling that your back was probably giving you problems, so don't worry about that. I know you will catch up when you feel better. And I did notice that you've had some new people commenting which is good. You know I think these things go in cycles. Some days I have one batch of folks who are the first to comment on my shots and a few days later a whole new group is the first to respond and the others seem to drop off. Don't let it get to you. Just keep shooting- you have some really great stuff coming now with your new camera- and now you're even getting shots you've never done before like the heron- so don't give up. I don't think you've let people down either. When you're back is out, your back is out- there's not much you can do except let it heal and most people understand it takes time. Do your best to remind yourself that you're taking shots for the fun and enjoyment of it- the rest will fall into place.
