Jane said to me, "What do you want to do today?"
"Take me to some place that's photogenic" I replied.
So off we went into the little town of Oley to see the covered bridge. Of course this reminded me of Carla and her beautiful bridge pictures. Mine doesn't hold a candle to some of hers, but I am pleased with how it came out. We had a beautiful day for a drive in the country and I took lots of pictures. But the Oley Covered Bridge was the highlight of the day. Thanks Jane!!
Instant fav. Love that angle shot of that fabulous covered bridge and I like how you caught the tree branch over the bridge. Beautiful sky, too. Will pin.
the colours and the mix of textures are awesome. we have one remaining covered bridge here in ontario and it's under construction hahaha like everything or everywhere else in this province.
My thanks to all of you and a special thanks to Daisy, Bev, Vicki, Bruni, Carole and Bill for the favs!
I will have to double check for you Nicole as to why they cover the bridges. I do think it had to do with the weather but why cover the bridge when the rest of the road would be susceptible to the weather? Inquiring minds want to know!
@nicolecampbell According to Wikkipedia, "The purpose of the covering is to protect the wooden structural members from the weather. Uncovered wooden bridges have a life span of only 10 to 15 years because of the effects of rain and sun." So there you have it.
@bill_fe Those two articles are basically agreeing- I only put one sentence of the Wikki def in. I knew about how snow was shoveled in when sleighs needed to pass through which was why I wrote the initial comment. If you've ever seen those trusses up close, then you realize how expensive they must be so I can see why the main goal would be to protect them.
