I visited a second garlic farm today and really enjoyed getting to know Rob as he brought me around the fields and talked about how he harvests and dries the garlic. I have to do a little more research because I'm learning there are several popular kinds of garlic but I keep getting the names mixed up! Rob's family has owned this farm since 1945 but it wasn't until the early 80's that they began harvesting garlic in earnest. He and his uncle have also developed a very tasty garlic vinegar. We sampled it and another- honey garlic vinegar- and they were delicious! I'm glad to say I have a bottle of each sitting on the counter courtesy of our gracious host.
The above shot was taken back at the barn. This garlic was out in the sun drying (it's been very WET here this week!) before it will be cleaned and readied for the farmer's market this week.
Nice shot. Looks great in b&w. I never knew how they processed the garlic for selling it in the stores. That's really interesting to learn something new!
Super shot of this garlic!! I cannot cook with out it!! I put garlic in everything!!! Love this in B/W and a great composition with even better details!! FAV!!
Wow- thank you so much everyone! I was delighted to see this had a brief stint on the PP as it's a shot I'm quite proud of. Now that I've been to two farms I'm really looking forward to the next one! Hope to hear from them soon. Then we'll return to the others at harvest time.
@kt8ird Thanks Kate! Funny you should mention roasting- that was one of the specialties of the Mountaindale Farm- and then they dip it in Belgian Chocolate! I have promised to try it at the garlic festival, but I don't know if I'm going to like it!
The vinegar sounds nice too.
