Took a stroll around the yard today and was taken by how the mid-day sun coming through the trees in the backyard gave this Dahlia such sharp definition.
Particularly nice in B&W - need to learn here - the bright light is good but it doesn't make the form of the petals disappear! Shadow is important too! fav

For those who took note- yes, the trees definitely made this photo possible because broad daylight usually kills a picture! Thankfully the plant was in just the right spot (or I could have moved it into the shade) and this allowed the petals to keep their distinctive shape.
@sangwann The black and white was not a far leap from reality as this one is white and the background was the darker area of woods (almost black at midday).
