Dahlia in Black and White by olivetreeann

Dahlia in Black and White

Took a stroll around the yard today and was taken by how the mid-day sun coming through the trees in the backyard gave this Dahlia such sharp definition.
Love this photo as black & white.

Lovely capture! I like the patterns - they work really well in B&W :)

Particularly nice in B&W - need to learn here - the bright light is good but it doesn't make the form of the petals disappear! Shadow is important too! fav

Instant fav. Normally I would prefer to see flower shots in colour but this came out so perfectly.

Thank you one and all- I'm overwhelmed!! And a special thanks to Alia, Dione, Nicole, Maggie, Janice, Graham, Debs, Nina, Wylie, and Joyce for your favs!!

For those who took note- yes, the trees definitely made this photo possible because broad daylight usually kills a picture! Thankfully the plant was in just the right spot (or I could have moved it into the shade) and this allowed the petals to keep their distinctive shape.

@sangwann The black and white was not a far leap from reality as this one is white and the background was the darker area of woods (almost black at midday).
