I put a hummingbird feeder out in the early Spring only to realize the raccoons thought I meant it for them. So, in it came. However, I knew from years past that red, purple, or pink flowers were attractive to the hummingbirds and I hoped my Geraniums and Petunia would work instead. It took a while but they did return. Now it was a matter of being at the right place with the camera at the right time and finally after two months the day came- today! For the first time, I'm thrilled with this shot. Down the road I hope to have both wings entirely in the picture, but for now, I'm proud to post this one and will probably even display it in an upcoming photo club show where we get to pick our own wildlife pictures to submit.
It's been a banner year for shots I've always hoped to take- check another one off the list! One more to go- but we have to wait for cold weather for that and I can wait a LONG time if I have to!
Oh Wow great shot Ann!! Love the focus and detail!!
I was sitting outside this evening waiting to photograph a hummingbird, they are around the garden flowers and feeder but no luck so far!
Congrats!
@rangerxenos Thank you Dawn and thank you so much for the fav!! @radiogirl Thank you Kathy! Patience is the key with these- something I am not always good at. But I kept telling myself if you really want one you'll have to sit by the window all day! And that's pretty much what I did! @photographycrazy Thank you Bill! @meemakelley Thank you Kelley! @aat3877 Thank you Ann!
This is one of the best photos I've ever seen of a hummer working a flower. The light is striking, and to have captured the little lady with her wings spread is fabulous! It will be a great submission for your photo club show.
How gratifying to achieve this shot after the long wait. The detail and light on him is beautiful. The focus on his main body and that long feeder makes up for the lack of complete wing view. Great shot, hope it does well in the show.
Wonderful action capture. The colours are great, too. I did not get postcards of Strasbourg. I don't do that anymore - I used to get one from every place I visit but that's before digital photography.
Ann, this is just beautiful!!! Love the dark background and the lighting!! Both enhance the flower and the hummingbird!! Your POV is awesome and love that you can look at the hummingbird's face. The flower may be the point of the subject, but it's the hummingbird that is the PLUS of the photo!!! Part of the wing missing doesn't matter, it just makes it more interesting!! Huge FAV!
Nice capture, the lighting is beautiful. The angle you have got the flower at leads your eyes right to the hummingbird. Hope it does well in you competition.
Oh my thanks to one and all and a HUGE thanks for all the favs. I'm thrilled to this and my architectural August shot on the PP at the same time! But in particular just thrilled to not only see this, but to get such a great shot of my little visitor! Off to camera club tonight- but will be back tomorrow to catch up with you. Thanks again for your amazing support!

Thank you Darinka and thank you for the fav!
Thank you Janice- frozen bubbles. I have to remember to buy bubbles this summer because I can never find them in the winter- go figure! hehehe
Great photo Ann! My hummingbird feeder has been buzzing with bees all summer, but I hadn't seen a hummingbird until last weekend. Now I have seen it a few times, but they are SO fast! No photos yet. Congratulations on your capture.

Thank you so much Lisa (hope you catch one soon!), Lisa (thanks so much for the fav!), Sandy, and Taffy (just as "luck" would have it; they're really so fast you don't have much time to think about it!)
@alia_801 Thank you Alia and thank you so much for the fav! I would imagine with all the flowers you have there that there would be some kind of hummingbird native to your parts but I don't know? They are pretty amazing. @juliac Thank you Julia!
