The Roulette Farm by olivetreeann

The Roulette Farm

There were two farms which ended up being at the center of the battle of Antietam: The Mumma Farm and the Roulette Farm. Both families suffered significant loss and damage from both sides- North and South. Soldiers marching through cornfields virtually destroyed the crops. Battles being waged around farm buildings damaged the structures and killed livestock. The farm houses were turned into makeshift hospitals and infirmaries which in turn ruined furniture and used up food and provisions. After the dust settled Mr. Roulette sought restitution from the government- just for the replacement of what had been lost or destroyed. But he was denied. The Mumma family received the same treatment. Things have not changed much have they?

I am continuing to process my Antietam pictures in black and white to make them look like they came from the Civil War era.
great processing and textures

Great processing - I thought this was a genuine old picture. Interesting story, and sad to hear that they were treated so badly. You're right - nothing ever changes :(

Sad isn't it - getting involved so directly in a battle which wasn't yours and you have to pay for the damages or die of poverty.

@cjphoto Thank you Chris. Although it was an idyllic day once the sun arrived I really felt the pictures needed to be processed in the era of the Civil War. Seems to have worked well for all the pictures I've posted so far.
