Skunk Cabbage in Bloom

Several members of our photo club are participating in service project with the Cranberry bog. We are taking pictures which will be used by guides as they educate the public on the plants which grow in this unique environment. We went out yesterday to photograph a plant that looks much prettier than its name but lives up to its description- Skunk Cabbage. While it looks nice to the eyes, it's not nice if you disturb it! Now you know how it gets its name.
So nice to see a new bloom. Lovely shot.

Oh my how interesting. It appears that the instant the snow melts, plants start growing!

Oh I remember these from when I was a kid in Connecticut. I used to play in the woods behind our house and these plants dotted the area around the stream. I still remember their pungent aroma.

Beautiful new growth. Once when we were driving from Banff to Kelowna, we saw a sign for Skunk Cabbage Prk, I think. If course we had to stop. Beautiful plant but definitely lived up to the name.

What a super project Ann. And I've never heard of a skunk cabbage or knowingly seen one. Great closeup.
