Time

Today's word is time. Making good use of your time is a major theme in the Phantom Tollbooth. Milo, the boy who is the main character, does not pay much attention to time until he enters the Land Beyond and meets a host of characters who are very concerned about it. Milo's entrance to this fanciful world is brought about by the Phantom Tollbooth which arrives with an intriguing tag attached to its box. It reads: FOR MILO, WHO HAS PLENTY OF TIME.
I like the composition with the clock cropped the way it is.

@dmariewms Thanks Marie. I photographed several of my clocks, but ended up liking this one the best because of the composition and the words on the clock itself. I added a layer of texture, but it really fit with the clock so it's hard to tell it's an effect.

Amazing coincidence! I just highlighted The Phantom Tollbooth in my October library newsletter because it is the 50th anniversary of its publication and a new edition is coming out later this month. Wonderful timepiece for your photo.

great idea for a shot

@dbjohnson Thanks Dean! Funny the more I look at this one, the more I like it!
@allie912 Thanks Allison- wow! I had no idea. I wanted to do a children's book for this challenge. I thought one might have some fun and interesting words to work off of and that's how I ended up picking Phantom Tollbooth. I know that most of the people who'll be taking on this challenge are using the words independently and randomly, but I'm going to try to tie them all into the book in some way. You are welcome to use my 365 challenge to promote the anniversary of the book to your students if you'd like. Now, I'm even more excited about the challenge and with a couple bonus "free" pages coming up, we'll definitely have to celebrate the big 5-0!

Very cool time shot! I love the textures :)

Wonderful time shot. I also chose time today as the word from my book. I have chosen a childrens' book for this challenge. Good luck, I hope you enjoy the challenge as much as I will.

@alia_801 Thanks Alia- the clock had a crackled look, but I also added a texture on top of that and I think it made it better.
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole- which one did you choose?

@prttblues Thanks Bev- this is actually a clock on my wall that I bought two months ago!! Isn't it great what processing can do!?

Amazing comment on time. I will need to pick up the book asap.

@changingtides Thanks Allie- it's a very clever book that takes a humorous look at some of our favorite time phrases- killing time, wasting time and more. I won't spoil it, if you're going to read it!

Wow!!!!! I just noticed these photos about your children's book today and am very impressed. You could be the next J. K. Rowling with your unique ideas. Keep it up, Ann!

@cimes1 Thank you Carole- this series is based on the book The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. I didn't write it; I'm just taking words from the book and making pictures about them. There are several people doing this challenge. If you click on the tag, you'll be able to see some of the other photographer's interpretations of the books they chose.

@olivetreeann Ann, I didn't see this note until today (Oct 11) as I'm a bit behind so you probably think I have a screw loose...LOL! Here I've been thinking all along that you wrote this. Bet Norton Juster doesn't appreciate that ;-) I can't keep up with all the themes here, but this one does look interesting and you are doing an excellent job with the photos to tie in with the story.
October 11th, 2011
@cimes1 Thank you Carole- that's ok, you'll see a lengthy explanation on one of your other comments which I wrote out before I saw this one. So that makes us even in the LOL department! I know what you mean about all the themes and challenges. I sometimes get overwhelmed by all the options!
