Artist Challenge- John Piper by olivetreeann

Artist Challenge- John Piper

Taken Sunday, October 7th, processed Monday, October 8th.

I regret I forgot to find out the title of the piece this picture is based on. It was a sketch the artist did of a church. Piper liked architecture and both painted and photographed it. The original painting has a head on pov. But our clock tower is being repaired and restored right now, so there is a huge truck on the church's front lawn for the repair crew which forced me to seek out a different perspective that omitted the machinery! Piper's sketch is basically black and white, with one section accented in red. I took this shot in color, but reduced it to black and white, then painted the bricks back in on two sections. I also added some texture in the sky to look like Piper's hand shaded sky in the original.
Great angle

What a lovely building. ... and not just because of the arches! But they really do add to it! Nicely shot! Love the angle, the lighting... brilliant. Well done!

@henrir thank you Henri!
@netkonnexion thank you Damon!
@wenbow thank you Wendy!
@ulpiphotos thank you Ulpi!
@maggiemae thank you Maggie- yes I agree, but in this challenge we are trying to imitate, replicate or capture the spirit of the artist. His original was basically black, white and red, so I kept to the color scheme.
@kerristephens thanks Kerri!
@prttblues thanks Bev!
@karenann thanks Karenann! Good to see you here again- and yes, they probably would. This is the church I go to.

@salza Thanks Sally- I was trying to be as true to his perspective as possible- unfortunately I wasn't counting on a huge "cherry picker" to be parked on the front lawn of the church!
