This basket greeted guests as we made our way to the beach where the wedding was to take place. Many guests took advantage of the flip flops but I decided to go barefoot- first time I ever went to a wedding with no shoes on! Oh, but I did break the rule about no cell phones- that's what I used to take this picture.
now this is an odd comment so bear with me - those shoes we call thongs here in Oz, and there is a really good brand that are sturdier and instead of one 'plug' holding each strap to the base, they have two. so we always called these 'double plugs'. for my sons, who are harder on shoes than I am, it was imperative that you only bought them double plugs. So my brain did this funny flip when I saw the basket of thongs, then the title unplugged, and it whispered to me 'them thongs gunna just fall apart if they are unplugged!'
there, how odd can a brain be. love the image so much!
Terrific photo in the first place. I feel certain you turned your phone off immediately after you took it in the second place and I don’t think I have ever been to a wedding with my shoes off either in the third place!
@koalagardens hysterical story! We used to call them thongs here in the US as well until women started wearing underwear with as much coverage as these shoes and THOSE are now called thongs which can create some interesting conversations as well!
@koalagardens Oh yes, these were definitely the el-cheapo thongs but they were only for the wedding- and I must say, most people just took their shoes off and went bare-foot. I could never wear these- the part that went between the toes rubbed the wrong way and irritated the skin, so my mom always bought me the kind that strapped over the top. To this day, I can't wear the ones that go between the toe. Silly me!
@grammyn You have a high opinion of me! It did stay on for some of the wedding, but I wasn't alone. In fact the row in front of me was full of family members with phones on the whole time! I turned the volume off on mine and put it in my purse for most of the ceremony though.
@randystreat Everyone knew it was going to be on the beach. I think these were mostly for decoration but they could be used if you wanted to. Most people either left their shoes on (the guys) or took them off (the girls!). It was very casual and fun.
Thank you Kathy, Annie, Diana, Katrina, Hannah, Jackie, Issi, Joan, Harry, Katy, Gloria, Vesna, Carole, and Kathy! Thanks for all the views, comments and favs!
