Posting a bit early today while we have still got power.
Yesterday it poured with rain all day and then during the night we had really wild weather all night, with gale force winds and thunder and lightning. It is still blowing a gale today too. We are okay at the moment and have only lost a few branches from some of the trees on our property, but apparently there are houses without power and telephone lines are down, including one of our mobile phone networks.
This morning we went up to Boat Harbour to see what the ocean was like and here is a photo of how wild the weather is.
The sea foam is blowing all across the neighbourhood. You can see the sea foam stuck to the rocks in this photo, it looks like whipped cream.
I took this photo from inside the car through the windscreen. I tried to take photos outside, but the wind was so strong and the rain was really heavy. Couldn't use an umbrella because the wind was too strong. I nearly got blown away.
The wind settled down a bit earlier today, but it is whipping up again now and I suspect that we could lose a few more branches from trees before the day is over.
We saw lots of damage on our way to Boat Harbour with trees and fences down. We were going to go to Birubi, but the road was closed because power lines were down.
Hope we don't lose power because it could take a while to get it up and running again in this wind.
We can't believe that three days ago the temperature was 27 degrees C and David had an ice cream which was melting in the heat.
Hopefully will be able to catch up with 365 tonight if we still have power.
oh Babs isn't it awful - the wind is picking up here again now too. Last night I thought the neighbours gum would come crashing down the wind was so loud. Hope all stays safe with everyone.
Looks like the winter is approaching Babs.......I hate wind, it really rattles the slates on our house! Sounds like younhad it all! Those are some wild seas...terrifying !
That looks downright ferocious Babs, You are having some wild weather. We managed 9.5 mm and it is very cold tonight. The two sausages are huddled in front of the heater :)
Am glad you r safe so far, been following your weather and it's unbelievable. When I first glimpsed your photo I thought it was snow !! Good shot, stay warm dry and safe
That's terrible Babs, sounds more like North Qld than down south. I just hope it's not too cold! Do you have a gas heater or hot water? There must be people doing it really tough.
@bella_ss@terryliv thanks. Still no power here. Been off since Tuesday. Could be the weekend before it is restored. Not cold here ans the rain has finally stopped today. We have a wood burner fire if it does get cold. Not much damage to our property. Tree branches down in rhe garden and debris everywhere. Patio shade cloth had to be fixed but others have had a terrible time. Typing this on my phone. Computers down. Dungog will have power back this afternoon Terry according to the radio. They are a priority because of the damage there.
Yes were ok. Still no power. None since Tuesday. Checking our 365 on my phone. Its like camping here at the moment. Hope the power comes back soon. But there are people much worse off than us
great shot of a stormy ocean scene! I love the cappucino coloured wave near top left! and the whipped cream effect! Hope you survived the week ok. We could not get near a beach but there was plenty of wild weather round here - lots of trees down, no phone or power for 4 days (still no phone), howling winds, thunder and lightning and lots of ground-softening rain. It will be weeks before all the debris is cleared.
@angelat thanks Angela. Still no power here but we have the phone. Also able to charge my mobile on Davids telescope power supply so dont have to rely on having to charge it in the car. @julzmaioro thanks julia. Hopefully we will get power back soon. Some houses in our area got it back last night but not us yet. Been without power for four days so far.
