The Poor Relation by onewing

The Poor Relation

Today has been a beautiful sunny winter day. Temperatures around 20 degrees c (68f).

I can't believe that we have had two whole days at home. This last week has been so hectic that it was nice to have nothing official planned for a couple of days.

We haven't been idle though. Yesterday was log chopping day for our wood burner fire and we now have quite a supply of cut logs. Today I have been catching up on preparing a batch of meals to put in the freezer after losing all the contents during our recent power outage for 4 days.

I just love this boat which is always down at the beach next to the marina. It has such character.

If you look beyond the boat next to the breakwater you will spot the expensive boats in the marina, but this one is very much the poor relation.
Sam
It certainly has a lot more character than the expensive boats! I did a whole lot of cooking today too.........going in the freezer so I always have dinner ready :)

losing all the contents sounds awful, just think of those smells.

It has a lot more character than the boats in the marina!

I cant believe it either that you had 2 days off...you are always doing something.

@gigiflower @onewing I must try this cooking to be prepared thing hahahahaha
it is full of character Babs - oh today I thought of you and David as I was in the city for heritage transport weekend looking at old buses and trains

A super shot. Smashing textures with all of the flaking paintwork.
June 7th, 2015
Love the tired old paint work on the side, someones pride and joy :)

Neat shot, light, composition, textures
June 7th, 2015
The contrast is striking, good one~
June 7th, 2015
Great capture.
June 7th, 2015
I love how your image is full of contrasts between the boat in the foreground and its rich relations behind, as well as between sand and sky. A lovely sea-scene.
June 7th, 2015
An imaginative title and a good composition. Your winter weather seems to be mimicking our summer weather - it's been beautifully sunny and around 20 degrees here too today.
June 7th, 2015
Great capture, love the details of that poor boat!
June 7th, 2015
I love the composition with the rowing boat in the front and the sheen and rigging of those behind.
June 7th, 2015
love it Babs. The blue of the sky and the old blue paint. Kids would love to play in the old boat on the sand
June 7th, 2015
A lovely evocative beach shot. We've had about 20 degrees today too - summer of course!
June 7th, 2015
wonderful ..
June 7th, 2015
Our summers struggle to reach that temperature at times! I think that boat needs a bit of tlc
June 7th, 2015
I agree, this one has character. I like how the others are in the background.
June 7th, 2015
Love all that peeling paint. Your winter is still warmer than our summer! Babs - what does the temperature have to drop to in order to put the wood burner on?
June 7th, 2015
I love you poor little boat. And yes, he does have character. Great shot.
June 7th, 2015
Beautiful photo! Great composition and contrasts. The little boat certainly does have character.

@gigiflower Thanks Sam. We are an industrious pair aren't we. It is always handy to have meals in the freezer for the days when we can't be bothered to cook. I had meals ready for when I came out of hospital recently, but unfortunately we had the 'great storm' and lost everything. The best laid plans ......
June 8th, 2015
@yaorenliu The prepared meals were okay for two days and we invited friends round for literally "candlelight meals" while the power was off, so managed to save some of the meals. The rest had to go in the garbage though unfortunately
June 8th, 2015
@leestevo @thistle Thanks. I sort of enjoyed my days at home, but it was spent cooking meals for the freezer and chopping logs. No peace for the wicked. ha ha.

@salza @julzmaioro Thanks ladies.
June 8th, 2015
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. My sister checks out my 365 in the UK so I have to mention the weather too.
June 8th, 2015
@karlow75 Thanks Kane and thanks for the congrats too. I am always amazed if my pictures get on the TT. Doesn't happen very often.
June 8th, 2015
@gilbertwood Thanks for the fav Denise. It is a lovely boat isn't it.
June 8th, 2015
@888rachel @beryl @creampuff @hermann @onlyme111 @koalagardens @susanalena @seattlite @gosia @taffy @craftymeg @ceilidh @cruiser @shailestha @mbmomentsintime @bella_ss @thimblelady @fntngrma Thank you all so much. I am not sure if this boat is actually seaworthy, but it does move from time to time, so I guess it must be.
June 8th, 2015
@dolphin @quietpurplehaze Thanks ladies. It has been another beautiful day today too. The good thing about winter in Australia is that it isn't winter every day. We did have a top of 14 degrees a few days ago and I actually wore a coat. Doesn't happen very often though.
June 8th, 2015
@annied I don't do the batch cooking too often, but had to catch up as I lost all of the food in the freezer after our storm. I was planning on being stocked up for when I came out of hospital, but unfortunately it wasn't to be, didn't have time to top up the freezer before my op.
David had a train fix today. We have been to Richmond Vale.
June 8th, 2015
@paulaw Thanks Paula. We only usually light our wood burner fire in the evening and we don't keep it burning during the day. It does go chilly at night and gets down to about 9 degrees sometimes. Maybe even lower as winter progresses too. We don't get to minus figures though.
June 8th, 2015
It has personality plus! I like it better than the new ones - more my style and pocket!
June 8th, 2015
LOVE this Babs. Great comp and love that boat!! FAV
June 10th, 2015
What an interesting capture you got here, Babs. Love it.

I'll bet this boat could tell a good story, if boats could talk that is. Good shot.
