Neptune's Necklace by onewing

Neptune's Necklace

Neptune's Necklace is a distinctive algae made up of strings of hollow, water-filled, round or oval-shaped beads joined together by a short stalk.

The fronds may be between 10 - 30 cm long, and the beads may be 15 mm in diameter.

Many pores cover the outside surface of each bead, forming a rough surface. Within these pores are the reproductive cells. Neptune's Necklace is sometimes called "sea grapes".

Use to love finding these as a kid.. great for popping ..neat shot

A lovely image Babs , reminds me of those plastic beads we had in the 50s and 60s that were interlinked and you would pop them apart to give different lengths of beads !! I think we called them "poppits " !! I love the lovely clear capture with muted tones and varied textures ! And it looks best on black !

You have indeed such lovely clear water to be able to see these 'beads'. I agree with @beryl they did remind me of those plastic beads that pushed together.....I haven't thought about them for years! I feel like a paddle!
