Eight Armed Sea Star by onewing

Eight Armed Sea Star

Today's people picture is a little bit different from my usual Friday people shots inasmuch as it is a diptych and the top picture is the underside of the sea star. The bottom picture is the top of the sea star and the hand in the picture belongs to, Jeannie, (which is where the 'people' comes into the picture). I thought I would give Jeannie the credit for today's people photo because she gave such an interesting talk as we wandered over the rock pools.

You can see on the underside of this creature, there are tiny sucker feet on the end of each arm. In the centre of the underside of this animal is its mouth.

Sam
It's tiny!

How beautiful, what an amazing little creature. Great idea to show the two sides like this and the inclusion of the hand gives a good sense of scale.

@quietpurplehaze Thanks Hazel. It was a bit difficult getting the top photo on its own. When Jeannie picked it out of the rock pool she put it in a plastic bowl with water in it which is where you see this photo. It would have been a bit cruel to flip it upside down on her hand as there was nothing for it to grip on to turn itself over like it could in the bowl of water.

Sorry I have been missing a bit lately, a lot going on here. We were out all day yesterday and this morning I have to have a holter monitor fitted for 24 hours because I get ectopic heartbeats and they want to see what is happening. We are out for lunch today too at a friend's house, so I will try and catch up a bit now before I go out and then maybe able to catch up again tonight. No wonder I have irregular heartbeats, I never stand still for long.

@onewing Oh Babs, your heart is trying to catch up with you. All the best
