Newcastle Harbour Entrance by onewing

Newcastle Harbour Entrance

We have been in Newcastle today with our walking group. As you can see it is has been a beautiful day.

Here you can see one of the tug boats on its way past Nobby's lighthouse to bring one of the ships into the harbour.

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments and favs over the last few days and sorry that I haven't got back to you individually, we have had a very busy week.
Beautiful light and details Babs

@cruiser We see quite a lot of cruise ships in Newcastle.

@quietpurplehaze Nobby's isn't actually on an island, it is attached to the mainland.

@paul10 Not sure who Nobby is, or how it got the name, but Captain Cook mapped the area as he sailed north in 1770. Whether he named it I don't really know. I think it was called Coal Island first though.

@salza A dredger sails up and down the harbour every day dredging sand and taking it out to sea so that the huge coal ships can safely sail into the harbour. The ships are brought in by the pilot and three or four tugs.

@happypat Thanks Pat, it has been really beautiful the last few days, not bad for winter at all. About 22 or 23 degrees each day at the moment.
