A few days ago Peter @pcoulson commented on one of my photos saying that 16 degrees C in the UK would be a beautiful day for poms because I said I was 'rugged up' at those temperatures here.
Well, here is a photo taken on the 1 June (our first day of winter) when I was out with the walking group. As you will see everyone is rather rugged up in the cold and this is what 16 degrees c looks like in New South Wales.
This beach is called Zenith Beach and the wind off the ocean was pretty chilly.
Thanks so much everyone for your lovely comments and favs for my Industrial Sunset photo yesterday and for putting it on the PP.
I have been a bit absent over the weekend so will catch up soon.
i can see from the spray atop the waves that there is a firm wind blowing.. the heavy clouds certainly give the impression of coldness.. as does the layers of clothes folk are wearing.
i do agree with Peter though - 16 degs here, in the northern part of England, is quite balmy. southerners (England) think 16 is too low too - wusses..
@jorlam Sorry to jump ship so to speak Jorlam, but I am with the southerners these days. My blood has definitely gone thin. You wouldn't believe I was born in Yorkshire would you.
We had a sunny 16 degrees day here at the weekend, definitely t-shirt weather. I love the colours in the sea and sky in this photo - and the warm red jackets!
Lovely beach ( I thought you were back in Black Rock Sands Wales , for a minute !!) The heavy sky , the surf and waves and the warmly clad folks does suggest a cold windy day - I must admit I also like a bit more warmth these days without cold winds !
Ha Ha must admit it does look a little chilly possible down to the sea breeze, what a lovely place, just right for a bracing walk along the seashore Babs, lol:)
Funny you should say that - it is currently 16 degrees here in my corner of England and I just walked back from town in my sleeveless t-shirt, above the knee skirt and sandals! A bit of wind out there too, so it's probably around 13 - 14 in the wind chill but I still think that is warm enough :) But I can understand why you wouldn't, given the temperatures you normally live with!
At least it's not as cold as Canberra at the moment. My cousin lives there, but is currently visiting his Mother in Perth. Perth was 22 Canberra something like minus 6 over night! It's hard for us Brits to get our heads round Australia being anything but hot! Lol
Lovely looking beach. Gotta be honest, 16 degrees is lovely. Any hotter and I stay to wilt.. Think you've gone soft in your time over there 😄😄 Lovely shot though. The waves look great 😊😊
Great beach scene, Babs. I've enjoyed reading the comments and yes, 16 is definitely jacket weather. A few years ago we were in Vienna and it hit 38, a normal summer's day in Perth, but it was horrendous.
Well Babs, I agree 16 is not nearly enough to feel comfortable and warm especially with winds. It must be at least 20 for me to feel good... We are hitting 30 for over a week now, which is a bit too much in the city and too early for such numbers...
I love this - the smooth look of the sand, the curl of the waves, the sharp focus of the people! fav fav fav - there - thats for all the others that didn't fav!
Ooh that does look chilly but 16c is very mild for us!! Love the colours and the empty feel to your shot.
Today it's 14c with rain and definitely doesn't feel like summer. It seems as soon as we get a sunny day everyone puts on shorts and t shirts, this applied in march which was just getting over winter!!
@onewing we had rain and wind and a balmy or barmy (as you please) 12 degs C. i was out in my sandals and lightweight trousers, t-shirt and a light mac. i guess it's what one is used to. i melt as soon as the temperature goes above 20 deg C..
You have grown soft Babs since you left the UK, 16deg is most of summer here! That must be why you emigrated following the sun & warmth! Been very wet here all day so waiting fir some warm sun on my back. Lovely walk & the surf is up!
I can see the spray off the waves, so I know it would be cold- but I'd be bundled up and walking on the beach too because it's something I love to do! Good shot!
So funny to think that this is the first day of winter for you Babs! We had 18C today and tomorrow it will be 16C here in London. Strange to think that our exact temps are for the opposite seasons!
@inthecloud5 Tee shirt weather at 16 degrees, you must be mad. I was wearing a fleecy top over a long sleeved skivvy, over a short sleeved tee shirt and thick denim jeans. Oh and I had my waterproof for when it rained.
@jackie8 Thanks Jackie. We are lucky to be surrounded by so many beautiful beaches where I live. I may do a theme of all our beaches when the weather warms up a bit.
@casablanca Are you kiddin' I would get frostbite wearing what you had on. I was wearing a fleecy top over a long sleeve skivvy, over a short sleeved tee shirt and thick denim jeans. Socks and shoes too, not sandals. I had my waterproof with me too in case it rained.
@carole_sandford I have a friend in Canberra and we nearly got posted there when David was in the RAAF. Glad we missed it. My nephew lives in Perth.
I remember UK weather only too well and so glad we decided to move here.
the good thing about our winters is that even in the middle of winter it isn't cold every day.
@paul10@happypat Oh I have definitely gone soft. I couldn't cope with UK winters any more. It was bad enough when we went back there from 3 years in Cyprus. Returning to the cold of the UK is what made us move here.
@jorlam Jorlam you must be mad. I was wearing a fleecy top over a long sleeve skivvy, over a short sleeved tee shirt, denim jeans and boots and socks. I had my waterproof with me for when it rained too.
What a difference a hemisphere makes.
Now 16 degrees in Canberra means I go out without a coat and it is quite balmy! The weather is turning awful tonight, very windy and quite chilly to boot!

16 degree Celc. is cold in our summers but warm in our winters.
Lovely beach scene Babs!
