16 Degrees C by onewing

16 Degrees C

A few days ago Peter @pcoulson commented on one of my photos saying that 16 degrees C in the UK would be a beautiful day for poms because I said I was 'rugged up' at those temperatures here.

Well, here is a photo taken on the 1 June (our first day of winter) when I was out with the walking group. As you will see everyone is rather rugged up in the cold and this is what 16 degrees c looks like in New South Wales.

This beach is called Zenith Beach and the wind off the ocean was pretty chilly.

Thanks so much everyone for your lovely comments and favs for my Industrial Sunset photo yesterday and for putting it on the PP.

I have been a bit absent over the weekend so will catch up soon.
@pcoulson Told you 16 degrees C was cold Peter. Just as chilly today too.

beautiful beach Babs - I find the different way temperatures are received across the world interesting.
June 5th, 2017
i can see from the spray atop the waves that there is a firm wind blowing.. the heavy clouds certainly give the impression of coldness.. as does the layers of clothes folk are wearing.
i do agree with Peter though - 16 degs here, in the northern part of England, is quite balmy. southerners (England) think 16 is too low too - wusses..
June 5th, 2017
@jorlam Sorry to jump ship so to speak Jorlam, but I am with the southerners these days. My blood has definitely gone thin. You wouldn't believe I was born in Yorkshire would you.
June 5th, 2017
Lovely photo, especially with those threatening clouds.
June 5th, 2017
Love that spray coming off the waves
June 5th, 2017
We had a sunny 16 degrees day here at the weekend, definitely t-shirt weather. I love the colours in the sea and sky in this photo - and the warm red jackets!
June 5th, 2017
Lovely beach ( I thought you were back in Black Rock Sands Wales , for a minute !!) The heavy sky , the surf and waves and the warmly clad folks does suggest a cold windy day - I must admit I also like a bit more warmth these days without cold winds !
June 5th, 2017
interesting discussion on what constitutes warm and cold... being a Queenslander...we think 16 is pretty dire.
June 5th, 2017
Lovely. Yes, i also think 16C is cold.
June 5th, 2017
Looks like a typical Victorian day :)
June 5th, 2017
Beautiful beach and composition Babs. I love your beach images.
June 5th, 2017
like a postcard and 16C is better than what we have here and it is not rainy.
June 5th, 2017
Ha Ha must admit it does look a little chilly possible down to the sea breeze, what a lovely place, just right for a bracing walk along the seashore Babs, lol:)
June 5th, 2017
Lovely beach and shot Babs.
June 5th, 2017
Funny you should say that - it is currently 16 degrees here in my corner of England and I just walked back from town in my sleeveless t-shirt, above the knee skirt and sandals! A bit of wind out there too, so it's probably around 13 - 14 in the wind chill but I still think that is warm enough :) But I can understand why you wouldn't, given the temperatures you normally live with!
June 5th, 2017
Beautiful beach shot. Love the spray on the wave. Looks like it was windy and cold.
June 5th, 2017
At least it's not as cold as Canberra at the moment. My cousin lives there, but is currently visiting his Mother in Perth. Perth was 22 Canberra something like minus 6 over night! It's hard for us Brits to get our heads round Australia being anything but hot! Lol
June 5th, 2017
It looks rather bleak Babs :)
June 5th, 2017
It is a beautiful beach. Does look cold and windy though.
June 5th, 2017
Lovely looking beach. Gotta be honest, 16 degrees is lovely. Any hotter and I stay to wilt.. Think you've gone soft in your time over there 😄😄 Lovely shot though. The waves look great 😊😊
June 5th, 2017
Well I see that 26C is 60.8F, that's not too cold but the wind off the ocean made it colder I'm sure! Beautiful beach photo, Babs!
June 5th, 2017
Great beach scene, Babs. I've enjoyed reading the comments and yes, 16 is definitely jacket weather. A few years ago we were in Vienna and it hit 38, a normal summer's day in Perth, but it was horrendous.
June 5th, 2017
Well Babs, I agree 16 is not nearly enough to feel comfortable and warm especially with winds. It must be at least 20 for me to feel good... We are hitting 30 for over a week now, which is a bit too much in the city and too early for such numbers...
June 5th, 2017
Great capture...love the sky tones
June 5th, 2017
Lovely shot!
June 5th, 2017
Great shot but it certainly looks like a cool day
June 5th, 2017
Great shot! Good discussion too! I thought 16 degrees was a nice spring day here in England!...I wonder what Joan from Alaska would make of it all?!
June 5th, 2017
I love this - the smooth look of the sand, the curl of the waves, the sharp focus of the people! fav fav fav - there - thats for all the others that didn't fav!
June 5th, 2017
Lovely shot. It does look chilly there.
June 5th, 2017
Great shot with layers of colors and stormy clouds
June 5th, 2017
nice layers and colour pops
June 5th, 2017
Ooh that does look chilly but 16c is very mild for us!! Love the colours and the empty feel to your shot.
Today it's 14c with rain and definitely doesn't feel like summer. It seems as soon as we get a sunny day everyone puts on shorts and t shirts, this applied in march which was just getting over winter!!
June 5th, 2017
Beautiful beach to walk, love the spray made by the waves.
June 5th, 2017
I've just been out in 13C wearing shorts and tee-shirt, then it started raining Ha Ha. Your photo does look chilly.
June 5th, 2017
@onewing we had rain and wind and a balmy or barmy (as you please) 12 degs C. i was out in my sandals and lightweight trousers, t-shirt and a light mac. i guess it's what one is used to. i melt as soon as the temperature goes above 20 deg C..
June 5th, 2017
A beautifulscene and a great capture of it.
16 degree Celc. is cold in our summers but warm in our winters.
June 5th, 2017
Beautiful beach capture! Love the waves! :-)
June 5th, 2017
You have grown soft Babs since you left the UK, 16deg is most of summer here! That must be why you emigrated following the sun & warmth! Been very wet here all day so waiting fir some warm sun on my back. Lovely walk & the surf is up!
June 5th, 2017
Does look like a bracing walk along the beach - lovely scene
June 5th, 2017
It's currently 14 degrees in the uk I'm thinking of asking for a refund this isn't the summer I ordered :)
June 5th, 2017
I don't the wind and cold, you can 'rug up'...new phrase for me. I don't go big time on rain.
June 5th, 2017
I can see the spray off the waves, so I know it would be cold- but I'd be bundled up and walking on the beach too because it's something I love to do! Good shot!
June 5th, 2017
A lovely beachscape fav
June 5th, 2017
This is so funny!! 17 degrees here but a cold wind and I have the heating on!!!
June 5th, 2017
Looks cold, at any rate. Not so long ago I had a convertible car and 16 deg would be "top down" weather in the UK!
June 5th, 2017
Love the clean lines of the sea, the sand and the waves.
June 5th, 2017
So funny to think that this is the first day of winter for you Babs! We had 18C today and tomorrow it will be 16C here in London. Strange to think that our exact temps are for the opposite seasons!
June 5th, 2017
Gosh this is just gorgeous. Wonderful even sand and beautiful curls in the water.
June 5th, 2017
It may be cold but its still a beautiful place to walk
June 6th, 2017
What a gorgeous beach even in the cold.
June 6th, 2017
Yes, 16 degrees is COLD. Especially in places like Brisbane that has inadequate heating. A lovely beach shot - intrepid travellers.
June 6th, 2017
@annied Most of the Brits seem to think it is hot and all the Aussies agree that it is freezing.
June 6th, 2017
Looks like it is cold with the wind off the water!
Lovely beach scene Babs!
June 6th, 2017
@inthecloud5 Tee shirt weather at 16 degrees, you must be mad. I was wearing a fleecy top over a long sleeved skivvy, over a short sleeved tee shirt and thick denim jeans. Oh and I had my waterproof for when it rained.
June 6th, 2017
@hrs @leananiemand @gilbertwood @hermann @littleconnie @merrelyn @cherrymartina @mittens @pyrrhula @olivetreeann @megpicatilly @kjarn @888rachel thanks. Glad you agree that 16 degrees is cold. At least we all warmed up walking along the soft sand and we ended the walk with lunch at a restaurant in Shoal Bay so it was a great day.
June 6th, 2017
@jackie8 Thanks Jackie. We are lucky to be surrounded by so many beautiful beaches where I live. I may do a theme of all our beaches when the weather warms up a bit.
June 6th, 2017
@yaorenliu I can't cope with much colder weather than 16 degrees.
June 6th, 2017
@pcoulson A little chilly! It was bloody freezing. As you say a very bracing walk along the beaches though, so that warmed us up.
June 6th, 2017
@casablanca Are you kiddin' I would get frostbite wearing what you had on. I was wearing a fleecy top over a long sleeve skivvy, over a short sleeved tee shirt and thick denim jeans. Socks and shoes too, not sandals. I had my waterproof with me too in case it rained.
June 6th, 2017
@carole_sandford I have a friend in Canberra and we nearly got posted there when David was in the RAAF. Glad we missed it. My nephew lives in Perth.
I remember UK weather only too well and so glad we decided to move here.
the good thing about our winters is that even in the middle of winter it isn't cold every day.
June 6th, 2017
@paul10 @happypat Oh I have definitely gone soft. I couldn't cope with UK winters any more. It was bad enough when we went back there from 3 years in Cyprus. Returning to the cold of the UK is what made us move here.
June 6th, 2017
@louannwarren Believe me 16 degrees c is cold.
June 6th, 2017
@janemartin I don't know Joan in Alaska, but I expect she would think 16 degrees was warm.
June 6th, 2017
@maggiemae Thanks for the many fav's Maggiemae
June 6th, 2017
@craftymeg I remember the temperatures in the UK and don't miss them at all. Even in our winters it isn't cold every day.
June 6th, 2017
@richardcreese 13C wearing shorts and tee shirts, you must be mad. I am quite soft these days that is certain.
June 6th, 2017
@jorlam Jorlam you must be mad. I was wearing a fleecy top over a long sleeve skivvy, over a short sleeved tee shirt, denim jeans and boots and socks. I had my waterproof with me for when it rained too.
What a difference a hemisphere makes.
June 6th, 2017
@rjb71 I'd ask for a refund too. Summers in the UK used to be depressing.
June 6th, 2017
@s4sayer I hate the cold, but our winters aren't too bad and even in the middle of winter it isn't cold every day. We get some really mild sunny days.
June 6th, 2017
@peadar convertible car with the hood down at 16 degrees, I would get frostbite.
June 6th, 2017
@stephanies It is interesting to compare the temperatures. Your summer at 16 degrees is warm and our winter at 16 degrees is cold.
June 6th, 2017
@onewing Oh, I see I mis-read your post, I thought it said 26c!
June 6th, 2017
I'd have a jumper on at 16 degrees too! That sky looks bloomin' cold.
June 6th, 2017
@onewing ha ha if winter was 16 degrees but sunshine every day I wouldn't complain :)
June 6th, 2017
Sam
You wouldn't want to be in Melbourne right now! Brrrrr it's cold :)
June 6th, 2017
@onewing That made me laugh out loud! Just goes to show temperature is a relative thing.....
June 6th, 2017
Now 16 degrees in Canberra means I go out without a coat and it is quite balmy! The weather is turning awful tonight, very windy and quite chilly to boot!
June 6th, 2017
Such a beautiful beach. But is would certainly have been dressed in layers.
