Watching

It was so interesting watching this group of pelicans keeping an eye on the fisherman filleting his catch of fish down at Little Beach.

Waiting, waiting, waiting - they look like our dog Ollie when he wants to eat what I am eating

What a great shot. I'd be feeling a little uneasy with them being so close after a few misadventures with some swans and geese at our local pond - they can be quite aggressive when there's food being offered - but these pelicans appear quite patient 😊
June 20th, 2017
lol - knew this was you Babs - I love the way they hang about waiting
June 20th, 2017
@paul10 This bunch of pelicans are very tame, they are used to people walking close to them because they always congregate here at the boat ramp waiting for some off cuts. I think they are very well fed.

If you look at this photo you can see just how close I can get to take a photo. http://365project.org/onewing/365/2017-06-18

Wow, having just seen a pelican up close this weekend, I think I would feel a bit intimidated by this gang. They are really quite huge
June 20th, 2017
Amazing creatures - would love to see them!
June 20th, 2017
Hoping for the left overs. Great capture.
June 20th, 2017
Anticipation indeed :)
June 20th, 2017
Haha - waiting quite patiently!
June 20th, 2017
Love the way they are all waiting patiently for the scraps, great timing, composition and image Babs:)
June 20th, 2017
Haha, this is so cool. I wonder if the fisherman managed to keep his fish and fillets by the time they were gone.
June 20th, 2017
good heavens! They are pretty keen....what an interesting shot
June 20th, 2017
Such a great shot Babs
June 20th, 2017
Sam
oooohhhhh I love, love, love this!!
June 20th, 2017
A very attentive audience :)
June 20th, 2017
@sangwann Yes he did manage to keep his fish. He threw off cuts for the pelicans at various times and they were very patient.

I had a chat to him as he was packing up and he had quite a catch.
June 20th, 2017
Love this, I cannot resist pelicans....
June 20th, 2017
@onewing I've looked at it and I've fav'd it :)
June 20th, 2017
Jeez.. i would be terrified, these things can be brutal.
June 20th, 2017
I would be a little worried if I was that fisherman. Great capture Babs.
June 20th, 2017
They are waiting patiently - I'm sure when he's through with the task there will be considerable pushing and shoving to get to the scraps! Look out!
June 20th, 2017
It looks like mayhem will erupt at the first throwing of fish scraps :)
June 20th, 2017
Ha ha they are definitely waiting for some fish! Great capture!
June 20th, 2017
@nicolecampbell @annied @yorkshirekiwi @quietpurplehaze @henrir @hermann @lyndamcg @pcoulson @hrs @photobird @gilbertwood @happysnaps @deborah63 @littleconnie @louannwarren @merrelyn @carole_sandford Thanks. It was so funny watching them. Every time the chap threw bits of fish there was a free-for-all with the pelicans all scrambling for the off cuts and they then all chased the winner. When the scrap was over they all stood patiently again for another round.
June 20th, 2017
That would completely freak me out! xx

June 21st, 2017
Nice caugth.
June 21st, 2017
@happypat It was quite a warm day for winter. As long as the sun is shining we are okay, it is when the rain comes and the cloud is thick that we feel the cold.
June 21st, 2017
@stephanies They are not so sweet once a fish is thrown at them though.
June 21st, 2017
@psychographer @pamknowler @moviegal1 @seattlite @craftymeg @tonygig @lynnz @richardcreese @carolmw @lesip @gamelee @gaylewood @pixiemac @chimfa @elisasaeter @netkonnexion @jessikapanteleios @kwind @777margo @haskar Thanks, we have so many pelicans in our area and it is amazing how many can congregate in one place as soon as they spot a fisherman arriving at the boat ramp.
June 21st, 2017
A cool capture fav
June 21st, 2017
Love this -- they all look so polite, as if clearly waiting their turn that the know is coming.
June 21st, 2017
They look like patient customers, lined up at a sushi chef's bar. Nice shot!
June 21st, 2017
@taffy They're not so polite once the fish is thrown for them.
June 21st, 2017
@dawnee @onewing Thanks. They do look as though they are waiting their turn don't they.
June 21st, 2017
Am bemused how they are together, yet have enough space to move independently when the booty is thrown to them. Particularly impressed by the one who is situated on the man's right. Whilst we can only see his lower body and feet, oh boy...isn't he just in pole position for the bounty?!
June 21st, 2017
@gigiflower How did I know you would like this photo.
June 21st, 2017
Sam
@onewing LOL I didn't like it Babs, I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 21st, 2017
So cool!
June 22nd, 2017
Oh, this is a superb street shot.. love the PoV which manages to show everyone's head, quite a feat for a photo of a crowd.. Great timing Babs - the fisherman has everyone's full attention.. love it..
June 22nd, 2017
@helenhall Ha ha, I hadn't thought of that Helen. ........ and today's demonstration is how to fillet fish.
June 23rd, 2017
@jorlam thanks Jorlam. I didn't get this on the first shot because just as I lined up the photo the chap threw a fish for the pelicans and it was a free-for-all until they regrouped again.
June 23rd, 2017
Give up, we've got you surrounded!
June 24th, 2017
@kjarn ha ha, love it. Believe it or not the fisherman actually got away with all his fish intact except for the bits he did throw to the pelicans.
