Yesterday I mentioned that we were invited to a surprise birthday lunch for our friend Patrick. He had no idea that a group of his friends were going to turn up. He thought he was just going to the winery for a birthday lunch with his wife Judith. The surprise on his face when they arrived and he saw us all sitting there was priceless.
Looks like it was a special one too! How fabulous to surprise him like that. Although, I always say I never want a surprise party... a surprise lunch would maybe be allowed ;) Lovely pic.
I love surprises like this. We did this to my eldest brother and his wife a few months ago and it really worked, too. He looks very happy and looks eager to cut the cake.
Nothing nicer than a surprise like that, the pleasure of spending time with friends like this is priceless. People always ask if we would ever emigrate to NZ as three quarters of our family live out there but our friends are so important to us at our time if life, plus we have a daughter here too.
@bella_ss It was his 80th birthday. He and Judith didn't want a fuss because they had both had health problems and Judith had two lots of cataract surgery, the latest one five days before the party.
They will be going to Sydney to have a party with family in a couple of weeks.
@susiemc@hermann The cake did look delicious. I couldn't eat it though because it had coffee in it and I am allergic to coffee. Don't feel sorry for me though, I had pavlova instead.
@casablanca He had a lovely day, as did we all. The knife is lethal isn't it. I hate huge knives, I think I must have either stabbed somebody in a previous life or been stabbed myself. ha ha.
Patrick was standing so close and I told him to behave with that knife in his hand.
@happypat Same here Pat. Our closest relatives are over 1000 km away. Daughter and grandchildren in Melbourne, brother in law in Queensland, nephew in Western Australia, cousin in Northern Territory and the rest of the family are in the UK.
We are so lucky to have really good friends here and as you know we get together regularly with them.
Happy Birthday Patrick! You've received one of the best gifts a person could ask for- great friends! Glad they were able to make your day special- and good job in capturing it Babs!
