As you know I love patterns on tree bark and scribbly gum has to be my absolute favourite.
There are lots of scribbly gums at the reserve in Salamander Bay and a couple of days ago I took photos of the bark. I couldn't decide which pattern was my favourite so I put them all together in a collage.
We had a lovely lunch at The Tavern today with friends and then I had to do my grocery shopping, so no time to take photos today.
It has just started raining again, but I believe the rain is going to pass soon and we should be in for a lovely warm weekend. We had 85 mm rain yesterday and I am beginning to get webbed feet.
I think these trees are great! Love the collage of so many scribbles :)
Babs, you used to be able to take the photo into picmonkey, upload the new one and replace it without losing comments but I really can't see how to do it anymore. I think we must be able to but it must be hidden somehow.
aaah I knew what they were!! we saw them at Stradbroke island last year... had never heard of them before. love the composition of the different ones together fav
@sangwann Yes the scribbles are natural, they are made by the larvae of the scribbly gum moth and follow the insect's life cycle. Eggs are laid between layers of old and new bark. The larvae burrow into the new bark and, as the old bark falls away, the trails are revealed.
How well named that tree is! Scribbly gum bark, I have never heard of it but love this very artistic effect. I think I like the silvery images the best. Interesting to read above how the scribbles are formed. So much rain around everywhere this year!
Very fascinating, I've never heard of scribbly gum so looked it up and found out the pattern is created by the scribbly gum moth. I learned something new.
@bella_ss I haven't used Picmonkey but Dianne posted her comment straight after I posted the picture.
I had saved it as a PSD as well as a JPeg so it was very quick to be able to change the photo. When I originally did the collage I had 10 photos open and could only choose 9 but didn't realized until I put the collage on 365 that I had repeated one of the photos. Lesson there always double check.
I realized after I posted it that the 6th and the 9th picture were the same and I had to delete the picture to correct it and then re-post it.

Some of you will know that the scribbles are made by the larvae of the scribbly gum moth, so I guess it is the graffiti of the insect world.
