Along the waterfront in Nelson Bay two of the trees seem to provide entertainment for tourists.
Children not only climb them, it would appear that people write their names on them too. This is one of the tattooed trees.
The carvings on the trees don't seem to do any permanent damage though.
Sorry I am a bit absent at the moment, but I have a splint on my left hand and thumb because I have got trigger finger, or in my case trigger thumb. When I bend my thumb it clicks and locks and so it has got to be immobilised for 6 weeks to see if the tendon can repair itself. If not I have to have surgery.
This brings back memories - We as children in the summer hols - my cousins and friends went up to the base of the mountain ( with the farmer's permission ) to picnic pay in the mountain stream and shade under a huge old holly tree . On this we had all carved our names - or at least my older cousin Rich and the older boys carved our names . There were also lover's hearts and initials there as well ! - I wonder if I could go up there now would the tree and the carvings be still there !
What an interesting find Babs, as a farmers son I would have been in big trouble if I was caught doing this sort of thing, fortunately my bother and I only did it on one of our trees and never got caught:)
@thistle@mv_wolfie@mave@happysnaps@hermann Thanks. The trees are very tattooed probably because we get lots of tourists along the waterfront and once somebody has started the trend of etching their names on the trees everyone else follows.
Sorry I am a bit limited with 365 at the moment but I have a split on my hand and thumb because I have got trigger finger, or in my case trigger thumb. When I bend my thumb it clicks and locks and so it has got to be immobilised for 6 weeks to see if the tendon can repair itself. If not I have to have surgery.
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. I guess the only way not to get caught is to write somebody else's name on the tree. If you write your own name it is a dead giveaway isn't it.
Oh dear, Babs. I’m sorry about your thumb. We use our thumbs constantly, I can imagine how difficult the splint is. Oh my! If the carvings don’t hurt the trees, then I guess it’s okay. Personally I don’t like a person defacing nature, at all.
Yes it looks quite good but we would never ever think of carving our names on a tree, sacrilege in the country code I would think! It dies actually look rather pretty & im glad it doesn't seem to have done any harm. Hope your trigger thumb behaves!
Sorry to hear about the issues with your thumb and I hope the splint does the job so you can avoid surgery. I have to agree with Rachel- was it really necessary to disfigure a tree? Good shot though.
@louannwarren@ludwigsdiana@paul10@merrelyn@seattlite@mittens@carolmw@happypat@pyrrhula@kathiecb@helenhall@suzanne234@radiogirl@888rachel@olivetreeann@taffy Thanks so much. I am not a fan of disfiguring trees either and this tree has had more than its fair share. I suppose being at the centre of a tourist area one person starts and everyone else follows. It is the same with love locks on bridges. They cause so much damage and have to be removed eventually. This tree has survived many many years of misuse though and it doesn't have to be chopped down to solve the damage.
Re my thumb, it is more of a nuisance than anything else. Now it is in a splint it no longer hurts but it does make doing certain things more complicated. I tend to use my left hand more than my right and the injured thumb is on my left hand. I am learning to be more ambidextrous.
I hope your thumb heals, that must be very annoying. I know it's probably terrible that people do that to the trees but I also find it a bit interesting.
I hope your thumb heals Babs, I'm sure you don't want to contend with yet another surgery! I am not sure what to think about the graffiti on the trees, but they do far worse in my area....mostly stripping the bark away which effectively kills the tree.
