This isn't my photo, it was taken by our friend John who passed away last night.
John was a good friend and also a member of the photo group that David and I ran last year at our local U3A.
He took this photo on the return journey of our U3A cruise to New Zealand in 2015 and was very proud of it.
It was take as the cruise ship passed Hornby Lighthouse at South Head in Sydney at sunrise. I took a similar photo of the same scene, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as this one.
I always loved this photo so wherever John is now I do hope he will be looking down and be pleased I have posted his photo for him.
John was diagnosed with a brain tumour a year ago and we are going to miss him so much. May you rest in peace John. xx
aaah that is a sad story, although your evident affection for him and this beautiful image is also uplifting. thank you for sharing a bit about john, and his photograph
What a stunning image which I am sure your friend John must have been very pleased to have taken. Thank you for sharing this Babs. So sad to read your news . This is a wonderful tribute for your friend!
So beautiful Babs , and a worthy tribute in memory of your dear friend John . Parting is sorrow but beautiful memories will linger on especially with the aid of this stunning scene ! fav
This is such sad news, Bab, but a loving tribute and beautiful photo. Brain cancers seems to be on the rise as I have lost several dear friends to this terrible type of tumor...Fav.
No wonder John was proud of this photo. It is simply fantastic. A great tribute to a wonderful man. I'm sure he is very grateful for you remembering him in this way. R.I.P. Fav.
I am sorry to hear about your friend. He was an excellent photographer! It's always hard to loose someone you care about but there is probably some relief in his passing too as now he will not have to deal with the increasing challenges of a brain tumor. My thoughts and prayers will be with you in the coming days. This was a beautiful way to pay tribute to him.
A fave for John! This is a stunning photo Babs, I love it! So sad that your friend had the misfortune to have a brain tumour, life is cruel indeed. You will miss him on every trip from now on. It's a lovely tribute to your friend & we appreciate his talent!
So sad that your friend John has passed away but what a beautiful way to remember him and for us to appreciate his talent as a photographer. This must have been a special image for him. Thinking of you.
A wonderful tribute and he was right to be proud of this photo. So sorry that you have lost him Babs and my condolences to you and David and his family and friends.
I was so pleased to see John's photo on the TP and the PP and yet sad I wasn't able to tell him he is now world famous.
@terryliv I am sure you are right Terry, along with a few other of his photos too. He loved taking photos of his grandchildren too and sharing the pictures with all his friends.
A few days before he passed away he said he wanted a bottle of Guinness so David and I snuck in a bottle of Guinness and a straw and he enjoyed his last Guinness on this earth. I told him to say that if anyone spotted it, that two leprechauns called Mick and Sheamus delivered the Guinness to him. David and I didn't want to get the blame. So at least we have one happy last memory of our time together.
@deborah63@jeneurell@maggiemae@ethelperry@ulla We are really going to miss him. Although we knew the inevitable was bound to happen it is still sad when the time arrives. @happypat The Guinness story is a happy memory we will remember at a sad time. You should have seen us turning up with the bottle in a brown paper bag and trying to look insignificant.
@onewing I'm sure " blame " is completely the wrong way of looking at it. You did a fabulous thing. Superb photo and it has to be a fav. He had every right to be proud of it.
What an incredibly gorgeous scene, and perfection in capture. You are a good friend to share it on his behalf . . .
I'm sorry to hear of your loss of friendship and fellow photographer. Grief is so overwhelming . . .
@louannwarren@genealogygenie@farmreporter Thanks so much. I am sure he would be thrilled to learn that his photo appeared on the TT. It is so sad that I can't tell him. Even though we knew the end for him was inevitable due to brain cancer, it is still difficult to think that we won't see him again. He was a good friend and we have lots of happy memories.
A beautiful photo tribute to your friend
So sorry to hear of your sad news.
I took Elizabeth out this morning for a cuppa and cake in Nelson Bay. Elizabeth is John's wife and in the same care home. She has Alzheimer's and I don't think it has all sunk in yet. We had a lovely morning together and after a cuppa and cake we walked to the marina and breakwater and saw lots of dolphins and pelicans. It is a lovely sunny day today and I am sure the sunshine was very welcome for her. Christine her daughter had to go back to Sydney yesterday so I said I would keep an eye on Elizabeth until she returned today. I took Elizabeth back to the care home in time for lunch and her daughter will be here again early this afternoon.
