Ferry Across the Hunter by onewing

Ferry Across the Hunter

It hasn't quite got the same ring about it as the Gerry and the Pacemakers song, but it's the best I could find.

While waiting for the ferry last Saturday to cross from Stockton to Newcastle I couldn't help noticing just how much of the 'old' Newcastle has disappeared and been replaced by lots of high rise apartments.
And happy birthday to David!

I thought for a second you were in Sydney as the ferries are this colour there, of course! Hope David had a super duper birthday.

Nice to have a ride on the ferry - - my memories of childhood was a holiday in Wallasey and the crossing across the Mersey to Liverpool - used to love it !

Pity, isn't it - having beautiful old mansions being knocked down to make way for ugly apartment blocks. Beautiful capture of the ferry. One of my favourite songs, too.

A great capture of the ferry and skyline. I’m now singing that song ( in my head). Ha.

Lovely shot of the ferry, it seems to be happening all over. I always wonder where all these new tenants are coming from?

I have to say that high rises are not pretty. I am getting old.
July 11th, 2019
I read your title to the tune of “ ferry cross the Mersey”! Nice shot!

@dide Thanks Dianne, we had a lovely evening.

@sugarmuser @pcoulson @sugarmuser @pcoulson @happysnaps @kjarn @gilbertwood @kwind @madeinnl @mittens @fishers @peterday @carolmw @craftymeg @peadar @jacqbb @carole_sandford @seattlite Thanks. There are some areas of the city where the old houses have been saved but most of the old houses have gone.
I would hate to live in a high rise, especially in Newcastle. Another earthquake like the one in 1989 and the whole lot will crumble.

@beryl I used to love going on the ferry across the Mersey too. We very often drove to New Brighton going in the Mersey Tunnel and then having a ferry ride to Liverpool and back. It was a lovely day out.

@sangwann It is sad to see the old buildings disappearing.

@louannwarren I was singing too when I saw the photo.

@nicolecampbell It has changed a lot in the 22 years we have lived in NSW.

@ludwigsdiana I wonder where they are coming from too and also wonder how many of the properties are still not occupied.

@yaorenliu I am getting old too, I hate high rises.

Nice shot.
July 12th, 2019
No, not quite the same, but an interesting shot nevertheless.
July 12th, 2019
I am a pity for these old cities. They are so strangled.
July 12th, 2019
Wonderful shot.
July 12th, 2019
They call it progress- but is it? Somehow all the newer stuff lacks character. Good ferry shot.
July 13th, 2019
not as high as some of the horrors in Sydney but sad all the same - hope David had a great birthday!
