This is the last of my Lost in the '50s collages, hope you enjoyed looking at them.
Most of the items at the museum have now been sold.
Glen Jennings has kept a few of his prize possessions I believe, but almost 100 cars and thousands of other '50s memorabilia have been sold.
Of these photos here the top left replica Batmobile sold for AU$215,000, the milk truck next to it sold for AU$18,000, the Back to the Future DeLorean sold for AU$130,000 and the bottom left red car sold for AU$40,000. I don't know about the price of the rest of the cars, but with almost 100 cars in the sale it must have added up to a bob or two.
@ludwigsdiana he built up the collection over 35 years. Initially it was just his private collection and then for 8 years he opened it as a museum just one day a month. It was a great success but now he has decided to sell
OMG Glen has collected a great series of museum items all in exquisite shape. I would have wept to see them sold after all the sacrifice I had made to collect them
My goodness- I'm sure he spent a pretty penny collecting it all, but the payback must have been beyond belief! There's something sad about it all being sold but one look at the pictures and you know it took a lot of time and energy to maintain it all too. Nice collage!
@sangwann I gather it was an emotional couple of days for him when the auction was going on, but I think he has other interests and was ready to move on.
@kvphoto I believe all the cars are drivable and so well looked after. When they have open days the cars are all driven. I think once the middle row are removed from the hangar the others are easy to drive out. It takes a lot of precision though.
@olivetreeann He built up his collection over 35 years and he reckoned he was ready to move on.
