@happypat Nobody knows who Nobby was, maybe it was one of Captain Cook's crew. He was the first person to note and map it as Nobby's Island in 1770 and it was described as "a small clump of an island lying close to shore".
It was not until the discovery of coal by Europeans in 1797 that the region was viewed as having any significance.
Nobby’s was joined to the mainland, reshaped and then reduced to half its original height, now 27.5 metres.
