It isn't only plane wrecks and parachute drop containers that have been unearthed on the dunes since our floods and storms.
David spotted this, what we think is a Mini Moke, and I suspect it has been stranded here since the 1960s.
Once a car was bogged in the dunes back then there was little chance of digging it out as the sand is so soft. These days people who get stuck in soft sand while 4WD'ing on the dunes can be dragged out by rescue teams so no recent cars have been stranded there.
I wonder what will be found next. We haven't spotted any dead bodies yet but I suspect it could be the ideal place to get rid of someone if the need arose. The dunes are 32 km long and 3 km wide in places, plus some of the dunes are as much as 30 metres high so I am sure lots more surprises will be found in the future.
Interesting find and story! I look forward to what else you discover (with the exception of a body, though I do like how you dipped slightly into the macabre, made me smile).
@jamibann Well funny you should say that because the dunes at Birubi is my favourite place to walk and I have already told David that if I die before him he has to scatter my ashes in the dunes. I just hope that if and when that time comes he remembers to have me cremated first or I have a vision of him dragging me across the dunes on our two wheel sack truck saying to any onlookers "This is where she wants me to bury her" ha ha
Wonderful collage, beautifully captured and presented , love the rusty hues and tones in each shot , and such an interested find -- wonder what will be the next find !! fav
This is just amazing to have a mini moke sunk under the dunes for so long and uncovered only now. I hope this hasn't happened to humans too. Still interesting finds.
This could be a great fossicking site. No end to the treasures that could be found (or bodies). Although a bit nervous that the word bomb was mentioned a couple of days ago.
Unusual finds on the beach. Makes an interesting collage. When we had our previous drought Folsom Lake lost so much water, it revealed an old mining town.
Interesting info and collage! There are some spots along the Atlantic coast where items have been discovered but I don't think there have been any cars. Dead bodies on the other hand are a possibility!
@pcoulson ha ha don't think it would get through roadworthy.
@k9photo The dunes are 30 metres (100 ft) not 30 ft as you thought. They are huge in places.
