On Wednesday we went for a walk at Soldiers Point and I took the top panorama photo with my phone. The phone does all the work and stitches the picture together in the phone camera.
Yesterday I went back to Soldiers Point and took six individual photos of the same beach and then stitched them together myself in Photoshop when I got home. (bottom picture)
Can you let me know which of the two photos above you prefer please.
Oh Babs this is a tricky one! Both are wonderful for different reasons. I love the colours and details of the top one, just find it a bit narrow. Obviously the weather was different hence the clouds on the bottom one. Although much closer, it somehow looks flat. I prefer the top one ;-)
Well Babs quite a conundrum you have set us here, I prefer the perspective of the top one with more shore line but prefer the detail and sky in the bottom one, so the bottom one for me:)
That is a hard one! I like them both very much! The top one has more color, but that might have to do with the fact that there are clouds in the bottom one.
Looking at them closely I think I prefer the bottom one as there is more detail, especially when looking at the harbor on the right
I like them both.
I am not good at making decisions like this, and often find myself agonising over which shot of my own is the better one & which I'd prefer. Sorry, I'm not much help!
This got me thinking. I like the colour and brightness of the top and the rule of thirds works. Whereas the bottom one looks more of a half and half. If the height were the same in both then they would be equal.
I am now laughing at myself that I can have such an opinion. Pre 365 I would have sat on the fence and said they are both nice without any justification!
I havenāt read any of the above answers on purpose until Iāve written my reply but I prefer the bottom one!
Shall check now. Well pretty evenly matched I seeā¦.interesting!
@terryliv Ha ha not confused at all that is exactly what I thought. I should have taken the two versions on the same day and then checked the differences between the two. I also prefer the height of the second one. It was an interesting exercise though.
@jgpittenger@shutterbug49@cwbill I like the colour of the water on the top one too but the height of the bottom one I stitched together isn't as narrow. @joysabin I like that the boats are more noticeable in the bottom one too. Both have their advantages don't they.
IMHO I think the phone outdid PS. The color is much better and the view is a little wider. I don't think making the boats recognizable is an advantage- one naturally assumes objects in a bay are boats, so that doesn't make much of a difference to me. It's the color that puts the top one "on the top". Both are good shots though- and if you never saw the top pano, you'd think the bottom one was just fine.

Both are great though.

As I said to Terry I should have taken the two photos on the same day. It was still interesting to see the difference between the phone camera and my proper camera. I must try it again sometime and take the two versions on the same day and see the difference.

Thanks you all for your input.
