Coliseum

Built in 1930 this Art Deco building in Porthmadog is now being demolished. It has always been a cinema.

What a shame. I love Art Deco buildings. Hope something wonderful is replacing it at least.

Aww ! so sad -- I remember going to this Cinema in Porthmadog on more than one occasion when the weather was not suitable for much else !! such a cosy bolt from the past

I hate that old buildings can't be salvaged and understand that sometimes it's more expensive to repurpose than it is to demolish and rebuild.

we have had several demolitions in our town lately but i havent managed to get in to photograph them, its surreal, been there so long and in a couple of days an empty lot

@mazaz @beryl @randystreat @happysnaps @juleshoogstraanderson @thistle @kali66 @janebennett the Coliseum was a bit of an icon in Porthmadog town and there was a lot of disagreement what to do with it. I'm glad I took the picture at this stage, the day after, the front, there where the letters Coliseum are, was knocked down. For me that was the end, the heart was taken out, even though the side wall was still standing then. Now it's a flat piece of land. Strange.
