'Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the valley; escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away.' - Genesis
As a child, I heard this story from the bible, about Lot's wife, who fled from her town, leaving everything behind. I remember feeling sorry for her. Why did she have to turn into a salt pillar. What's wrong with just turning around for a last glance.
If you're interested, this image consists of four layers:
- the beautiful houses are in Cuenca, Spain
- the flames are from our woodburner
- the mountains are in the Alps, France
- and a picture of myself, in white, to symbolise salt
This is so beautiful - I also as a child couldn't understand why Lot's wife Sara was not to look back and how cruel to turn her into a block of salt -- you are so creative the way you have composed your image using four layers ( thank you for the insight into this ) A super image Saxa-- and a fav for me !
Stunning depiction of the story - may have to 'borrow' (if that would be ok) the image when hubby next has to preach on it in Church! Totally agree - weird story!!!
@fugitivemoments@randystreat thanks. I don't have photoshop, so I use PicMonkey. You are both ace members, so if you upload a base picture, you can then add layers. When I want to work with layers, I always put the picture on 'restricted' so no one can see it yet and I can just work on it. It's fairly easy. Under Overlays (butterfly) and Textures (maze) you can add your own image (it's at the top). You can then play with saturation, fade, even move the picture etc. In Overlays you can use an eraser to delete what you don't want. In Textures it fills the whole photo. It's a very user friendly photo editor, PicMonkey. The only thing is that you have to upload on here for all the special features (if you want to use it for free). Have a go, it's fun!
Creative, the wonders of PS. I think that naughty things had been happening in the city she was leaving and she wasn't supposed to be having any regrets at leaving this indecent place!
@ivan hehe. I found an poem, interpretation by Wislawa Szymborska on Google. I was a child when I heard the story, maybe the naughty things were left out :-)
Powerful image!
Please allow me if I may, to attempt to answer your question about Lot's wife since I noticed a number of comments about her. When the angels of God told Lot and his family to flee for God was going to pour out His judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah they were also told, not to look back. Lot's wife chose to ignore the warning and she paid the price for her poor choice. In the Garden of Eden when Satan tempted Eve he twisted God's words when he asked Eve, "Did God really say. . .?" Eve, along with Adam, fell for Satan's lie and mankind has been paying for it ever since. We look at the story of Lot's wife and ask, what was the big deal about her looking back? " Evidently it was a big deal because Jesus mentioned Lot's wife when He was making a point about the importance of heeding God’s warnings in Luke 17:26-33. Maybe to point out that Lot's wife gave in to her human nature and ignored God's warning as many are prone to do to this very day.
So wonderfully done. I've often wondered the same thing. I agree with Skip above. I think that God was being gracious to them by allowing them to leave the city without being destroyed. And they were given simple instructions...leave and don't look back. I would want to look back, too. It's human nature. I always take that one last glance. Glad I don't turn into salt!
