Caterpillar?! by overalvandaan

Caterpillar?!

Does anybody know this caterpillar? I've tried to google it, but can't really find it. Swallowtail?

We found it yesterday, when we were in the garden.

Lev is intrigued. I found him singing to it and talking to it. What does a caterpillar eat? Can I take it with me to show at school? Those black things, mama, on the leaf, is the caterpillars poo.

I hope it stays there and that we will see what it will turn into!
lovely little Lev, :)))))

@roachling Louise, I know you have a lot of knowledge of nature's little creatures. Have you got any idea what caterpillar this is?

Very impressive caterpillar! Love it's vertical pose.

Oh, hopefully it's not the species that smokes hookah asking "Who are you?", it would be dramatically late for fiveplustwo "through the looking glass" 😉

Off the top of my head I would say mullein moth, but I've not looked to check so I could be wrong.

Bep
Hubby says: cabbage butterfly (NL koolwitje). Google maar eens op 'rups koolwitje'.

you could take it school to show the kids - just take lots of the leaves you found it on as well

@roachling thanks, I think you're right!

@gijsje dank voor het meedenken, de rups is niet harig, waarschijnlijk is het een mullein moth

@annied yes, this morning he checked again, came back, mama it's not there (almost crying), we had a look again and his younger brother spotted it under the leave. And yes, he took it to school, all proud. When he came out of school he said the caterpillar was on holiday. On holiday? It's staying a night at school :-)

This is a very cool shot of a very cool caterpillar... but what had my heart is Lev's reaction. So special!!!

Hiding in plain sight to us adults. Lev on the other hand, has eyes and questions of a curious soul. I love his questions to you. May be find many more creatures to spark his mind and yours.

@joysabin thanks for your thoughts, it's great how children make you think about things and his curiosity makes me also curious to know more.
