Darkling Thrush by pamgleason

Darkling Thrush

Saw this little hermit thrush while on a walk with the dogs, between rain storms. With apologies to Thomas Hardy, of course:

". . . At once a voice arose among
The bleak twigs overhead
In a full-hearted evensong
Of joy illimited;
An aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small,
In blast-beruffled plume,
Had chosen thus to fling his soul
Upon the growing gloom.

So little cause for carolings
Of such ecstatic sound
Was written on terrestrial things
Afar or nigh around,
That I could think there trembled through
His happy good-night air
Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
And I was unaware. "

Beautiful bird and one of my favorite poems also. Super nice capture.

@allisonblackwell @danette @skippysue @lynnz Thank you for your kind words. I have heard these thrushes a lot, but this is the first time one posed for me. I think her boldness had something to do with the rain. I have always loved their singing, but rarely had a chance to appreciate their beatiful, soft coloring,
