I had an appointment today with a Consultant Gastroenterologist following a stool test which showed blood. My GP referred me but to get it over with quickly rather than go on a long waiting list I decided to go Private. I have been very nervous waiting to see the doctor especially in the night when my brain was on overload!!
The good news is the blood count which was very low was caused by the food poisoning I had in February which left me with an irritable bowel. The doctor said I was lucky as the bug I had usually puts people in hospital. So no colonoscopy required!! Phew I am so very relieved!! Everything normal now after such a long time feeling poorly.
Lesson learned - I always wear gloves when preparing any raw chicken and wash all the utensils thoroughly and my hands when I take the gloves off. The doctor said the bug found in raw chicken is one of the worst to catch and that care must be taken.
Looking forward to my holiday at the end of this month.
So very glad to read this Pam….what a worrying time you’ve had! Just knowing there is nothing sinister going on will buck you up & you can look forward to getting fully better sometime soon! A good nights sleep tonight! I think we are all of a mind, I know I am that we will never get food poisoning…other people do not us….we must remember to be vigilant at all times!
Really glad to hear this good news - and a reminder about washing my hands after messing with chicken! (Not as good as I should be about that). Know you must feel quite relieved!
Good news, Pam! I do not eat any meat, pork or chicken. However, I did get very sick and had to have a colonoscopy from an egg salad sandwich!!! Chicken related! :)
