One of the worst bird shots I have ever taken and am putting it up for record purposes only as I have finally caught a shot of the bain of my life at the moment.
From 4.30am until after 10.00pm this bird sits on the TV aerial and sings it's heart out!! BUT not the normal blackbird song - oh no he has a repertoire of sounds which are like a car alarm, a house alarm, a police car and a space siren!! It is so loud!! There are other blackbirds in the garden who sing normally but this one seems to be a loner. I did think it was a starling and it wasn't until last night at about 8pm that I finally caught a shot of him!! We had our lounge doors open and you could hear him above the TV!! I still couldn't see what he was in the dim light and it is only when I have put him on the PC that I can see his yellow beak. Oh yes the culprit is a blackbird!!
Shoot that bird - no you know I don't mean it!! I think I might try and record it and send it to Spring Watch to see what they say about him.
Love your rant!! Made me smile...it's amazing how they pick up these sounds and include it in their 'song'! Never mind the quality, this will always remind you of those 'sounds of summer!'.
Lovely story. He is maybe a look out of some sort. They do make a horrid noise when alarmed. When we had cats I always Knew when they were about int he garden because of the annoying repeated sound of the blackbirds. I normally only ever heard one at a time giving off the alarm call although there were other blackbirds about.
@shirleybankfarm Thanks Shirley but this is not the alarm call which is very distinctive especially then magpies are about!! No this is a stream of calls each one different which he goes through continually. It sounds like one of those toys for children like a space gun with lots of different sirens that you just want to take the battery out of!! LOL!! I can hear him as I type - we are on the police car siren at the moment!!
@888rachel She had the biopsy on Wednesday and now we have to wait 3 weeks for results. She is keeping quite upbeat and is convinced it is scaring from the radiotherapy. I am just hoping and praying that is the case!!
Sorry you have a noisy neighbor. But glad you ID it. I have a Mocking bird that frequents the treed in front of my condo. His voice is off too. He doesn't sound like ther other mockers. His songs are quite raspy. He is not as annoying as yours though.
I enjoyed your "rant." What a pain... sorry you are having to listen to that racket. I also enjoyed your "disclaimer" about posting the worst bird shot ever (for you). Good luck to your sister.
You are entitled to the rant. sometimes, especially early, early in the morning, the birds can be annoying. Maybe he is the outcast of the blackbirds and is showing his annoyance with the others.
Loved your writing - though I do feel for you! There's nothing more annoying than something irritating that you can do nothing about. Hope he finds a new home soon!
Haha!! I laughed as I read your narrative of the offending bird. It gives me a whole different feeling about the tranquility of your garden with all the bird scenes to date!!
