Happy New Year

I hope you all have a wonderful celebration this New Years Eve and bring in the New Year in style. We will be staying home looking after Finlay and George who are really frightened when we have fireworks!! We have been having them for the last few nights and I am fed up with it all!! Bah Humbug!! LOL!!

Years ago (pre dogs) I always celebrated New Year Eve with a dinner party for my close friends. My closest friend Ann Marie was Spanish and we would always try to eat the 12 grapes between the 12 dongs of midnight. I would be crying with laughter watching my friend and trying to eat the grapes she had brought with her which were the size of melons!! Sadly she died at 52 of a brain tumour and NYE has never been the same since. Does anyone else follow the Spanish tradition with the 12 grapes? It brings you good luck if you can manage it - or so Ann Marie would tell us!! Lovely memories!!
Happy New Year Pam :)

Happy new year Pam. It sounds like you had loads of fun with your friend. NYE has been quiet in our household for many years.

Fantastic photo Pam and even more so of a memory! I've never heard of the tradition but you, sharing your memories of your friend, make it sound fabulous and great fun!!! It's sad when we lose friend so young ~ my mom passed the 3rd day into a new year and 58 and she was a hoot too. They always did a small, family celebration of NY/NYE - growing up miles from Pasadena and all that hoopla, and always having pets, I like to stay home, safe and sound ~ fireworks are lovely but I do hate how they frighten the animals. The bigger the dog, the harder to comfort! Stay cozy and enjoy your evening in and hopefully, Finlay and George can rest easy as you celebrate with grapes ~ I hope!!!

Lovely bittersweet story Pam, thanks for sharing. Hope you all had a Happy New Year. We were asleep early, woke up in time to watch the Melbourne and Sydney fireworks on TV, then back to sleep.

@pamknowler Thanks Pam, it's not starting too promisingly. Les caught a nasty chesty bug on our trip, kept it suppressed with the meds she always carries (from her specialist), tapered the meds down when we got home and came down again like a ton of bricks. She's been in bed for a week now and still able to do virtually nothing (she has emphysema). I'm sore as blazes in umpteen places for various reasons, not the least of which being that I normally have deep-tissue massage from my physio at least fortnightly, plus doing weekly clinical pilates to keep my malfunction parts kinda working. Haven't had any treatment or pilates now since late November - and paying the price bigtime, especially with my added nursing duties.
