I hate magpies especially when they raid the other birds nests. There is a pair who keep returning to the bird feeders and I do keep chasing them off. As soon as I chased them away this one came straight back - so bold!! They grab hold of huge beak fulls of mealworms - so greedy!!
They are very persistent and very clever, far too clever. I have one in the garden that has learned how to hang on the little square blocks of suet, not the fatballs. Once it has got a good foot hold, I can't half devour the suet.
Not as nice as ours Pam. Mind you, during breeding season, magpies can be extremely aggressive and are renowned for dive bombing people who enter their territory
Although a beautifully marked bird, I also loathe the fact they steal babies. I watched one steal a blackbird's fledgling on Sunday and kill it, it was heartbreeaking
So pretty. I love to see the magpies...but then I only see them when I visit Canada. They are a really pretty bird. They are probably like our starlings...which are very pesky.
