While not esthetically pleasing, it does give a glimpse into the preparations for the upcoming Rose Parade on New Year's Day.
These bleachers have been up for at least 2 weeks already and are always the first to be set up because this is THE corner where the floats and marching bands make their big turn down Colorado Blvd. It is also where the television camera crews set up. That's what those platforms are for at the top.
As the big day gets closer, I'll try to include some more peeks. Sometimes I can spot a float or two in the pre-flower stage. Darn, I just realized I could have shot the Queen and her court. They get beautified for all their engagements (including the parade) at the salon I go to and they've been emailing their clients invites to come for a chance to meet the Queen and Princesses. I've been deleting them, but if I get another one, I'll try to scoot over.
I have never really thought about all the hard work that goes into pulling off such a large parade. Can't wait to see more pictures in the days to come.
I've been to the Rose Parade a few times in my younger days (when I could stay up all night!). The floats are unbelievably beautiful in person. I don't think I'll be at the parade but I will be at the game...my youngest son goes to Stanford..,go Cardinal!!!!
@webfoot
LOL!
Yes, and on top of the blistering summers, and frequent earthquakes, we have lung clogging smog, nerve wracking traffic and a skyrocketing crime rate!
@bardejov
Oh gee...are you going to make me go to the parade? LOL
I've lived 5 blocks from the parade route for about 15 years and I never go. I'm usually sleeping. Heck, I'm ALWAYS sleeping. Sometimes I'll turn the TV on and watch a few minutes and then doze off.
Although last year I was hiking with @webfoot during the parade, and I hope to be hiking this year too.
But now that I'm on 365, I'll try to pull a lovely shot of a float or two out of my hat. ;-)
I can't believe you are still up 'cuz I KNOW you haven't just got up!!;~}
I tell you it's the Rose Parade's fault. Nary a New Year goes by where we don't have almost perfect weather for the parade.
Here's the conversation that occurs back in Minnesota or Wisconsin every year.
"Look Martha, they're wearing shorts again on New Year's Day."
"That's it Harry. We're moving to California."
And in actuality. That's exactly what my parents did many many years ago.
