Over the last 3 months I've pretty much walked the same route every day and I've noticed that over half of my posts have been of flowers.
Looking for inspiration I decided to visit the cemetery today to find something non floral but these Passion flowers on a fallen tombstone just lured me in.
I can't seem to help myself..
A great find 🙂 and very unusual. If I'm correct, particularly in the Victorian era, flowers conveyed various sentiments? I love cemeteries and we tried to visit our local Military Cemetery; however, it was full of feral dogs who were not happy to see us! so we didn't stay.
I looked it up and read this.. Roman Catholic priests (1500's) named it for the Passion (suffering & death) of Jesus Christ. The flower petals represent the 10 Apostles who remained faithful to Jesus throughout the Passion.
So the grave could be of a faithful Christian 😇 or they are simply there for decoration 👍
@cupofteajudy Thanks Judith for this great info. I've been looking myself too. The only thing I could find was that the five spokes in the centre of the flower represent Christ's crown of thorns. I'm fascinated by religious symbolism so I really appreciate your research on this.
This capture really lures you in to look deeper. A great shot. Like you, I’m rather flower focussed too - but they bring such joy? What’s not to like!? 😁
