My sister bought me a book of walks around Birmingham for Christmas and yesterday I checked out one of the walks and found a super new park.
Perry Hall park once had a grand Manor House in it but it was demolished in 1928. The building had severe dry rot and the council at the time chose to demolish it rather than repair it (boo). I met a lovely guy who was a park volunteer and he showed me some old photos of the hall in all it's glory, such a shame it's gone.
All that remains is a square moat and two of these lovely curved bridges.
The park is beautiful and absolutely huge so I will be revisiting again in better weather (hopefully with sister in tow) as there was so much to photograph.
What a wonderful gift for you to enjoy. Such a pity that the manor house had not been restored, but they would have had their reasons. The old bridge looks lovely, sure it has some stories to tell.
A lovely shot of this very nice old bridge - fav! I have quite a collection of walking guides, and looking through them brings back lots of memories and inspires future days exploring. I particularly like ones that give lots of background information as well as route information. A Happy Healthy and Safe New Year to you and those that you love.
Lovely shot of the beautiful textures. Sounds like a wonderful book. We have one similar for San Francisco. I once spent 6 weeks in Birmingham installing software and I loved walking around the city when I had some time off.
