The story is not in the photos in the cabinet

This is my raw photo before final editing. I know how I would finish it but how would you tell your story through your edit?
Well, it’s not my story so I don’t know what’s important to you. I do know that, if it were my photo, I’d be wanting to do something about the distracting chair back on the left. Also, I would probably emphasize the window light by darkening the rest of the image to some degree. Interesting to see what you come up with.

@cdcook48 I'm going to wait a couple of days and see if there will be any other comments.

I'm usually one to crop, so at first I agreed with Chris to crop out the chair back...but then decided it adds interest and may be the story...who is in the chair and why is it turned with the back to the other chair. I like the light through the cabinet. I might crop the other chair out and cut the window in half. Just a suggestion!

@thewatersphotos Those are great ideas. I didn't thin the chair on the left so much as being "in the story." But you brought that up and now I'm starting to look at the image differently. The first inclination of any photographer is to crop BUT would you be cropping part of the story out?

@paulivaska I think it boils down to "what is the stoy you want to tell".

@thewatersphotos I try to do that in most of my photos but after people telling me about what THEY see in the photos I find that there are a lot of different stories for each one. Try it. Take a photo about something you believe is an obvious story but like the chair to the left or the photos that seem should be distracting leave it in and then ask different people for the story they see.

I think all the ideas above are really interesting and you could edit your photo in a number of different ways and look at the different effects you achieve and what story each tells. I think it's really fruitful to have these kinds of discussions as I am fascinated by what people say through their photos both in the photo and in their narratives.

i probably would have moved the chair and my feet haha

@ankers70 I am with you on the point that we need more discussions about our images. Not so much as to the technical way they look but what they say. Taking time to really "see" what it is about should be the key. Thanks for the comment.

@kali66 Thanks. It seems a consensus.

I would be interested in seeing the outcomes of your editing!
