The Homestead. Once the grand residence of the medical superintendent for the Lincolnshire County Pauper Lunatic Asylum, this imposing Grade II listed building is now a pub restaurant serving delicious lunches and fine wines and ales.
Built around 1901 as the new medical superintendent’s residence in the north-west corner of the extensive grounds of the Lunatic Asylum, The Homestead is an imposing building, reflecting the grand Italianate style of the the Asylum itself, first constructed in 1852. The Asylum, known as St John’s Hospital, fell into disuse after finally closing in 1989, some of the listed buildings have been preserved
@terryliv Thank you for your comments Terry, the asylum was full of beautiful stone building in massive grounds, now full of modern properties built in the last 10 years, yes was a lovely day yesterday the blue helped by using a polarising filter:)
@miata2u Thanks Peggy lovely grounds and buildings at the time but not a place you would like to be a patient, by the way this building is supposed to be haunted a lady ghost walking up and down the stairway and a male ghost with a walking stick has been seen in the bar area seen by staff and customer, I remain unconvinced :)
fabulous narrative to accompany this gorgeous image.. can hardly believe the blueness of the sky.. the polariser has worked it's magic here, with increased saturation of both sky and stonework. love the Pov, so all-encompassing.
you certainly had better weather than i had at about 9-ish.. don't know what it did afterwards..
How exciting to have lunatics preparing your lunch and serving you drinks. What an amazing, beautiful structure - and obviously a stunning spring day too. Love these history lessons about the use of the English historical buildings.
@jorlam Thank you for your wonderful comments Jorlam, true I had a polarising filtered and the sky was blue, as I shoot in RAW looking at it now it may have been over done in the processing, a little but not much and it was a lovely day in Lincoln all day was visiting my sister in Bracebridge Heath about a mile from this location:)
@stray_shooter Ha Ha thanks for your lovely comments Ron, we would never get away with using the term Lunatic Asylum in this day and age, we our for more knowledgeable about mental illness now, in the days of this Asylum there was little understanding and the inmates (patients ) treatment was appalling:)
