This is Sam the Arborist (tree surgeon) pruning my neighbours tree yesterday as can be seen he is harnessed at two points but still looked very precarious he did complete his task without any problem, and of cause I asked if it was alright to take some photographs whilst he worked in the tree.
@cottiac Thank you for your comment Cottia, Sam was moving out very carefully to trim the smaller outer branches, but I must agree it does look like he was about to leap into free space, lol :)
@onewing Thank you for your comment Babs he was safer than it looks Sam had two safety ropes at two different anchor points on the tree you can just see them to his left around his waist harness:)
Superman!! that was my first thought.. obviously not the clothes but the position of Sam's body..
love that you caught him in what appears to be the only clear space between the jumble of branches.. great composition with his head/gaze in line with his body/leg - a very dynamic diagonal.. though he does look like he's ready to launch himself into mid-air..
an unusual stance - even for an environmental portrait.. maybe you could start a trend for portraits in unusual positions/environments..
there was Noel in a hole and now Sam in a tree.. where/who next?? lol.
@jorlam@jorlam Thank you for your comment and Fav. Jorlam, its so nice that you see in my images the same things as I do when constructing the shot, looking for clear space the diagonal with the leg and body plus focus on the face, as for your suggestion the possibilities are endless (Russ in the bus, Jorlam in the tram, possibly next couple, lol:)
@novab Thank you for your lovely comments Nova he was moving slowly looking to prune the small outer branches I thought it was a great pose so took the shot:)
Something rather strange, Peter. My father died suddenly on Ray and my 28th wedding anniversary, Aug 22nd, early in the morning. He did not usually send us an anniversary card but that year, 1998, he did. In it he wrote that he hoped he had the right date and 'memory a bit dodgy'. We opened the card after his death. I have kept it, needless to say. Life...........
It is strange I agree that for example your mum should die on your birthday just one day out of 365 (or maybe 366) in any year. After I had arranged my first meeting with Ian who is publishing the PoW diaries, I suddenly realised it was on my dad's bday, Jan 12th....
