Teasel by pcoulson

Teasel

Close up of a wild Teasel, mainly found in the English countryside,
The teasel is a tall plant, often reaching the height of a person. They have thorns all the way up their stems and a cone-like flower head that gives the plant the impression of an oversized cottonbud. The flowers are tiny and purple, clustering together and appearing in rings up and down the flower head;
Over recent years I've enjoyed learning about their uses through the centuries!

It does look like it is best not to try to pick them. Ouch. Very pretty.

Wow! As tall as a person. This is a great photo, crystal clear, every thorn perfectly visible.

@Weezilou Thank you for your comment Louise, yes quite interesting how they were used in the textile processing, providing a natural comb for cleaning, aligning and raising the nap on fabrics, particularly wool in days gone by:)
