Chicago is a city rich with history, often called "the Windy City", yet it is not the windiest city in the United States. I find it fascinating that to prevent pollution and sewage from backing up into the city's water supply, a canal was built in the early 1900s to reverse the flow of the river. The river used to flow into Lake Michigan, but the canal drew water away from the lake, causing the river to flow towards the Mississippi River.

What fascinating information. Gorgeous night view over the water. Are you ever at home?? You seem constantly to be in amazing places. If you ever need someone to carry your bags.....!!
Thanks for you nice comment. In fact we do n`t had much rain this year. all new records for temp. dry and sunny day`s. For that there are less mushrooms than in the past years.
Did you know that one reason (the original) for our nickname is that New York and Chicago were fighting for the Worlds Fair of 1893. Chicago got it and New York said it was because of our "wind-bag" politicians -- hence, the 'windy city.' It does also happen to be very windy!
