"The Marsh," as it is called, is more than 7,000 acres of reclaimed swamp in the Holland River Valley. The soil contains rich, fertile earth and is home to about 175 farms that feed 65% of Canada.

Beautiful scene ; I wonder about the name Holland River Valley; I know that after WW 2 a lot of Dutch farmers emigrated to Canada ( and Australia) ; does it have anything to do with that ?
@momamo - thanks Monique - nice catch - there is a bit of history here - it was actually named after an early provincial official named Sam Holland - but it was the Dutch farmers who helped create this productive farm land through their skilled farming practice and co-operative management. Interestingly, the Dutch families came from Friesland and Groningen - the ancestors of my green-thumbed wife :)
@777margo - thanks Margo - no this dilapidated house might have been used for seasonal workers in the past - but you can see the current farm home in behind
How fascinating to see this simple farmstead...I read about the connection with Dutch farmers.....there are a good few Dutch farmers in NZ too, known for their good farming practices. Fave.
