I tried one of these in my last project and it was kind of OK, so I thought I'd try again. For something that is so simple, I'd forgotten how difficult it can be!
Works better on black (simply click on the image).
Thanks for taking a look, and thanks for all the comments and favs in recent days, all very much appreciated.
@caterina Caterina, it is both very easy and very hard (I find). I have tried lots of different techniques in the past; the one that produced this result is just writing ink dropped into a container of clear water. The problem for all this type of shot is focus point. Where do you focus as the image changes each time you do it? A technique I learnt from this site is to use a static object placed as close as possible as you can to the place where the ink will drop - focus on this, then, if you were using autofocus, turn the AF off for the main shot (thus retaining the focus point you have set). I then tried to give myself a better chance by using a fairly narrow aperture (f/11) to get a deeper depth of field; I also increased the ISO so that I could shoot at a higher shutter speed (and reduce the focus blur on the ink - it is always moving of course as you are taking the shot(s). I then took the image into Lightroom and processed (including turning the image upside down) to produce what you see here. Not perfect, by any means, but better than my previous attempts!
Totally agree with your words about that last mile in the rain with the lying map! Memories.....
this is lovely results.
