For this week's Taste theme - these are (I think) Cayenne peppers (Capsicum anuum); we have a plant on the patio which is quite productive!
I hadn't realised that capsicum were native to the Americas, and were only introduced to Europe and Asia around the 15th century AD. Europeans apparently found it a handy alternative to white and black pepper (and so coined their now common name as "peppers").
If you have the time, view on black, it makes all the difference.

Thanks to all for your recent comments and Favs. I read every one and really do appreciate you taking the time to do it.
Beautiful picture and light. And interesting story of the origin of the name. As a matter of fact a great number of our beloved vegetables were imported from the Americas. (Say "Thank you Cristoforo Colombo") :-)
Creative shot. You can tell they're home-grown by their different shapes. I like how you cut through the long one to show off the inside. Now, what are you going to cook with them?
By their color I would be more inclined to think they are habaneros which are actually 3 to five times hotter than cayennes according to the Scoville Rating scale for peppers. I just by chance posted a similar yet different picture for the theme too. Yours is especially nice on black and I love that you cut one open and show the seeds and inside of it.
