Figs were an unknown delight to me growing up - the closest we got were the obligatory box of "Eat Me" dates that were purchased each Christmas. I loved their sugary, sticky consistency and continue to buy a box each Christmas, much to the amusement of my kids. They are even more bewildered when I explained that oranges were such a rare and special treat, they often featured in our Christmas stockings! As usual, this is much better viewed large on black.
Many thanks for all your comments, favs, and general support. It is very much appreciated.
Gorgeous! Enjoyed your story too. Hubby and my Dad both adore dates and figs, Christmas especially but any time really! I find them a bit sweet but I adore the look of them.
I love figs. We have many fig trees where I grew up and it's the first thing I ask for when August begins. I always have to wait a couple of weeks, but then eat them for breakfast every day until September. Then we dry them out in the sun and eat them like that the rest of the yeat. Lovely shot!
Great still life. I like figs but like you, have come to them later in life. I still buy boxes of dates at Christmas - I thought you had to!! Also we still put a satsuma in everyone's stockings at Christmas (yes, we all have them)
Just came across this whole scrolling through TP and my mouth started watering.. love figs.. and walnuts.. and you comments about figs a Christmas ring true with my Christmas memory.. as did the orange in the Christmas stocking.. fav and folliw
I've never tried figs - something on my list for the future. Great composition though Peter. Like you, I only saw oranges (and bananas) at Christmas and there was always one at the bottom of my stocking. My son has one now, even though he never eats them. Some traditions just can't be broken.
We grew up only with the very familiar "Fig Newton" cookies. I didn't have a fresh fig until I was an adult...and I suspect it had been in transit too long. But since then I've had a few good ones and have learned to love them. I really like the still life arrangement you have here.
